In 2008, a passionate interest in preserving the environment led him to an experiment where he saved all of his trash in his basement for the entire year. He documented this on a blog called 365DaysofTrash, sharing what he was learning and ways everyone could be more mindful of their consumption and waste. He gained worldwide acclaim as "Sustainable Dave" and appeared regularly on LA radio KROQ's Kevin and Bean Show, as well as on the front page of the New York Times, on Good Morning America, and beyond. Realizing there was a greater need for environmental education, he created a seminar entitled Chasing Sustainability that he know teaches to kids from elementary school through college, as well as to businesses and religious institutions and anyone else who shows an interest.
