In 1969, Frank Cassenti alongside Michèle Annie Mercier directed his first short fiction film , Flash Parc , indirectly produced by Jean-Luc Godard , which was selected at Cannes for the Directors' Fortnight.

From the 1990s, Frank Cassenti made documentaries for Arte on music, in South Africa on Zulu songs and dances, and on great jazz figures, Miles Davis , Dizzy Gillespie , Max Roach , Ray Charles , Nina Simone , Abbey Lincoln.
