Was married to actress Karen Black at the time they filmed the cult TV-movie Trilogy of Terror (1975). Ms. Black initially turned the role down but eventually accepted when Robert was selected for a lead role in one of the three segments. Karen plays an English teacher and he plays an obsessed college student. The couple was already divorced after only little more than a year by the time the TV-movie premiered in March of 1975.

When he started his acting career Robert he used his nickname "Skip Burton". He started using "Robert Burton" in 1975 and continued to use it throughout the rest of his film career, as well as his current position in commercial real estate.

As an actor, as well as when he moved into commercial real estate, Robert developed a practical guide based on his experiences in his experiences in job hunting. Based on feedback to his guide, Robert feedback he created a book titled "7 Days to Your Next Job". Later, Robert created a website called Great-Truths where he continues to expand on both work ethics and his philosophy of life.
