“The show is a character-driven dialogue-lead show and so it’s really important that the sound serves a story but doesn’t get in the way of the story,” explains Emmy-winning supervising sound editor and re-recording sound mixer Lee Walpole. He just earned his fourth career Emmy nomination, this time for his work on season 4 of “The Crown,” which he shares with collaborators Stuart Hilliker, Martin Jensen and Chris Ashworth. “It’s not flashy, it’s not ‘crash bang wallop,” he says. “The show is letting you into a world of opulence and decadence, so we’re trying to achieve that sound across every level,” he says. When massive volcanic storms begin to spew from the Earth, geophysicist Kate Ferris tries to convince the Department of Defense that this is no natural phenomenon. They re the result of a seismic super weapon known as the Hell Storm device; and now that it’s been activated, the shock-waves it sends out will destroy major cities across the globe, killing millions. When her claims fall on deaf ears, Kate teams up with her daughter and estranged husband at the San Andreas fault line to find a way to counteract the destruction. As Kate and her family navigate the fault, they find themselves directly at the epicenter of the largest shock wave yet.

The Wire alum Chris Ashworth has booked a recurring role on the fifth season of Amazon’s drama series Bosch. Based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, Bosch stars Titus Welliver as homicide Detective Harry Bosch, Jamie Hector as Jerry Edgar, Amy Aquino as Lt. Grace Billets, Madison Lintz as Maddie Bosch and Lance Reddickas Deputy Chief Irvin Irving. Ashworth will play Vardy, but no other details are being revealed. Known best as volatile Ukrainian thug Sergei Malatov, aka ‘The Russian’ in HBO’s The Wire, Ashworth was seen earlier this year as Miro in Amazon’s Sneaky Pete and in a guest role on CBS’ Elementary. Ashworth is repped by Hummel Entertainment.

Lyndon Smith (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) is set for a recurring role opposite Octavia Spencer and Lizzy Caplan in Apple’s thriller drama series Are You Sleeping, from the scripted drama venture of Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.

The queen of Shondaland and the indigenous Not Ready for Primetime Players are among the Television Academy’s latest Hall of Fame inductees.

Shonda Rhimes and the original cast of Saturday Night Live — including Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, and John Belushi and Gilda Radner (posthumously) — will be inducted during a non-televised ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Saban Media Center in Hollywood, Calif.

Additional 2017 honorees include TV producer John Wells (Shameless, The West Wing, ER), the late Joan Rivers and art director/production designer Roy Christopher (Frasier).
