Co-creator of The Monkees (1965).

Directed six performers in Oscar-nominated performances: Dyan Cannon, Elliott Gould, Art Carney, Jill Clayburgh, Lena Olin and Anjelica Huston. Carney won for his performance in Harry and Tonto (1974).

Close friends with Mel Brooks.

Received a lifetime achievement award from the Writers Guild of America on February 1, 2014.

Member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Directors Branch) [2006-2014].

He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6667 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on December 13, 2013.

He died from pulmonary cardiac arrest at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Received his Bachelor's degree in Theatre from Brooklyn College in New York City in 1951.

He had two daughters with his wife, Betsy: Jill Mazursky and Meg Mazursky.

Has four grandchildren: Carly, Kate, Molly and Tommy.

Member of comedy team Igor and H with Herbert Hartig. When Hartig decided he wanted to be billed as simply "H," Mazursky decided to use the name "Igor".
