He starred in Eugene O'Neill's play, "The Iceman Cometh," at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland with J.G. Devlin, Jan Grant, Oscar James, Leonard Maguire, James Cairncross, Henry Woolf, Ian Bannen, directed by Bill Bryden.
The Mayor of London asked him to serve as the "Ambassador of Ireland" to the 2003 St. Patrick's Day Festival. With a budget of over
$800,000, it was to be the biggest St. Patrick's Day Festival ever held in London. Toibin was also the guest of honour at the
Mayor's dinner, held on 16 March 2003.
