Both Sophie and her sister, Emma Thompson, met their future husbands--Richard Lumsden and Greg Wise respectively--on the set of सेंस और सेंसिबिलिटी (1995).

She was awarded the 1999 Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in "Into the Woods".

Younger sister of Emma Thompson. Consequently she is the sister-in-law of Greg Wise and the former sister-in-law of Kenneth Branagh.
