Grand nephew Hesh Malkar, (Mahesh) made it to the cover of Time magazine because of his hands - Malkar's hands, casting a vote, were photographed by Dennis Chalkin for the cover of Time International in May 1991, to illustrate a story on the Indian general elections. Rajaram has been married twice. His second marriage was to actress Jayashree. Jayashree passed away on the 19th of October, 2004 in Bombay, at the age of 84. Jayashree and Rajaram are survived by their son, Kiran Shantaram, former Sheriff of Bombay, and daughter, Rajashree, well-known former Bollywood actress.

He was the president of the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association ( IMPPA ) from 1940-43 to 44.

Grandson is aspiring Producer , Chaitanya Shantaram . He was to produce a film with Anil Kapoor and Ritesh Deshmukh. Ritesh was to play a villain. This was in 2007.
