Besides his activity as an actor Josef Rovensky also wrote some screenplays and he also directed several movies.

The actor Josef Rovensky was especially well-known as an actor in his home country Tschechoslovakia. Since 1928 he also appeared in few German productions from time to time.

He joined the film business in 1914 and at the beginning of his career he played roles in the movies "Zamilovana tchyne" (1914), "Oklamany hypnotisér Swengali" (1919) and "Akord smrti" (1919).

At the end of the 20s he also took part in first German productions, often directed by Karel Lamac.

Josef Rovensky died in 1937 at the of only 43 after a short illness.

Josef Rovensky continues his film career in the sound film era of the 30s successfully and the acted again in many movies.

He was born into a wealthy family and was able to take acting lessons before he made his stage debut in 1914. In the next years he got engagements at bigger theaters like the Stadttheater in Pilsen and beside it he appeared at cabarets and smaller theaters as well.
