Famous American science fiction novelist, editor and literary agent. A
lifelong friend of Isaac Asimov and Cyril M. Kornbluth, with whom he collaborated on
such popular novels as "The Space Merchants" (1953). He was barely into
his twenties when he became the first editor of the magazines
"Astounding Stories" and "Super Science Stories" and was later
respected as editor of "Galaxy Science Fiction" and of its companion
publications, "If," "Worlds of Tomorrow," and "Magabook."
There are well understood terms of engagement between the people who write for publication, on one hand, and the academics and critics who discuss it, on the other. Writers write. Then the academics explain what the writer has written and the critics explain how it could have been written so much better.
