Seventh cousin of actor Bill Paxton.

Her father was born in Los Angeles, and has Irish, Scottish, English, and remote French, ancestry. Her mother is Mexican, from Monterrey. Sara's mother was born Jewish and Sara's father converted to Judaism.

Her mother, Lucia, is a dentist and her father, Steve, is a businessman.

Her name was listed in the "special thanks" column on her Aquamarine (2006) co-star Emma Roberts' debut album "Emma Roberts Unfabulous and More".

In school, Sara played the flute in band. She was a member of her high school's marching band.

In 2008 she was asked to play Natalee Holloway in the Lifetime television film Natalee Holloway (2009). Paxton rejected the offer feeling that it was still "too early" to base a movie on Holloway's case because it was still being heavily covered in the media.

Has studied under acclaimed booking coach Amy Lyndon.
