Mother, Mary, is a sex therapist.

Attended the 2001 Oscar party at the FilmHouse in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he was said to have cheered at every opportunity for his nominated film Chocolat (2000) by Lasse Hallström.

Both he and his Summer of the Flying Saucer (2008) co-star Robert Sheehan have played a king of France. O'Conor played King Louis XIII of France in The Three Musketeers (1993) whereas Sheehan played his son King Louis XIV of France in Young Blades (2005).
