Dark Winds is ready for its close-up. With a 100 percent Tomatometer score and multiple spotlights shining on lead actor and executive producer Zahn McClarnon, this 1970s noir series set on the Navajo Nation is garnering attention far beyond the rez.
McClarnon and the cast, including Season 3 guest star Jenna Elfman, took to the stage (and rooftop) at NeueHouse in Hollywood Monday for the AMC show’s FYC event to share what it’s like for them to work on a series that not only explores Native American life without the stereotypes of shows from generations past but also why they think the series is resonating so strongly with audiences and what’s ahead for Season 4, which has already begun shooting.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details of tonight’s Dark Winds Season 3 finale ‘Béésh Łį́į́ (Iron Horse)’
“I hope one day I can forgive him. But until that day, I walk alone.”
The Season 3 ending of AMC’s Dark Winds tonight saw some emotionally and politically hards winds blow over Navajo County.
Devastating and magnificent, the words that Lt. Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) heard on a recording of his estranged wife in the closing minutes of the ‘Béésh Łį́į́ (Iron Horse)’ episode both sums up this year on the 1970s-set AMC thriller and what’s to come in the February announced Season 4.
“Of course, the stoic version that Zahn acted just sits so beautifully in the pocket of that emotion as he sits there and listens to that speech,” says Dark Winds writer/director Erica Tremblay of the wordless and wonderful performance by Reservation Dogs and Westworld alum...

[This story contains major spoilers from the season three finale of Dark Winds, “Béésh Łį́į́ (Iron Horse).”]
Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) has been through a lot in three seasons of Dark Winds: He’s rescued countless innocent victims from bad guys, struggled to find “Indian justice” for the murder of his son, and earned broken bones and severe lacerations in his dogged efforts to protect his Navajo community. But at the end of the third season, he receives a wound that cuts even deeper: His wife, Emma (Deanna Allison), leaves him because she can no longer bear to live with someone so blinded by his grief and driven by his work that her own needs are always an afterthought.
That’s not to say the entire season finale was bleak. There was plenty of satisfying action as well, with Joe and Chee (Kiowa Gordon) chasing down Dr. Reynolds on a train to stop him from killing George Bowlegs, and...

It's been an exciting week in Westeros! On Monday, HBO announced that the third season of its Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon had officially begun production. To go along with it, the studio announced two new cast members for the series, and showrunner Ryan Condal sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly where he dished on everything from Aegon II Targaryen's future, to the Battle of the Gullet, to the importance of Otto Hightower's newphew Ormund Hightower and more. He also addressed George R.R. Martin's critical blog post from last year, where the Song of Ice and Fire author laid out some of his issues with the show and HBO responded with a flurry of damage control.
Martin himself hasn't weighed in on any of the new House of the Dragon announcements. Instead, he took to his blog this week to discuss another of...

A who’s who of Indigenous film talent — including Dallas Goldtooth (Reservation Dogs, Echo), Amber Midthunder (Prey, Legion), Wes Studi (Heat, The Last of the Mohicans) and Graham Greene (Dances With Wolves, Wind River) — are set to star in Brave, a new dramedy from writer/director Steven Paul Judd (Echo, Dark Winds), The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The feature, currently in pre-production, will begin principal photography next summer on the Choctaw Nation Reservation in southeastern Oklahoma. It will be the first-ever feature film to be shot on Choctaw land. The project was developed in close cooperation with the Choctaw Nation, the third-largest Native tribe in the United States.
Brave tells the story of Uncle Jack (Goldtooth), a 15-year military vet with substance abuse issues who now works as the entertainment in his local Native casino. At the funeral of his estranged brother, Jack meets Jillian, his young niece, now an orphan.

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin took to his Not A Blog this week with more updates, and as is mandated by the old gods and the new, we are here to discuss them. Last week Martin published a post announcing that he'd returned from his month-long trip to Europe, where he visited the set of the Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in Belfast, attended the World Science Fiction Convention in Glasgow, and more. He also said that he would soon be airing some grievances about House of the Dragon season 2 in the near future.
This blog post, titled "September Morn," doesn't get into the nitty-gritty for House of the Dragon. Instead it's a much more cheerful update, all about the short films Martin has been producing based on the works of author Howard Waldrop. One of them, Mary-Margaret Road Grader,...

The following contains spoilers for Echo Season 1, now streaming on Disney+.
One thing that has always defined the Netflix Marvel shows has been the fight sequences. Whether it be Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones or Iron Fist, fans have -- for the most part -- enjoyed the action choreography. Coupled with grittier properties like The Defenders and The Punisher, and Marvel TV did carve out something edgier compared to the more family-friendly Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.
However, with these shows being folded into the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline, viewers were wondering if the boundaries could be pushed on Disney+. Well, in the five episodes of Echo, Marvel Studios proves it can be accomplished.

Echo is the latest series entry in the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series is a spin-off of Hawkeye that follows the story of Maya Lopez, a.k.a. Echo (Alaqua Cox), as she returns to her hometown of Tamaha, Oklahoma. The series sees Maya struggling with her past as an enforcer for her adopted uncle, Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin (Vincent D'Onoforio), and reconnecting with her family and Choctaw heritage. The series dropped all five episodes on Disney+ and Hulu on Jan. 9, 2024, and has been a change of pace for Marvel Studios, being the first TV-ma entry in the franchise and the beginning of the Marvel Spotlight banner.
One of the series writers, Amy Rardin, sat down with MovieWeb for a one-on-one interview to break down all five episodes of the series. This includes the change in Maya's powers, what Maya's future could be in the MCU, and...

Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for Marvel’s “Echo” on Disney+.
Charlie Cox’s Daredevil appears in the very first episode of “Echo” on Disney+, and he’s instantly forgettable.
That’s not an indictment of the character Cox originated in “Marvel’s Daredevil” on Netflix, now resurrected for the MCU, but an endorsement of the scene around him; a one-shot combat sequence in which Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) eventually kills one of her opponents and marks Daredevil as an enemy.
The scene is striking enough on-screen, but also a key moment in how various teams intent on getting “Echo” right came together — the writing, the stunts, the direction, and an overarching sensitivity to a deaf character’s point of view.
“Echo” is the rare TV series with an Indigenous lead, the first who is also deaf, the first Marvel series to release a whole season at once,...

Days before a Targaryen civil war erupts between Rhaenyra and Alicent on the Season 1 finale of HBO’s House of the Dragon, you’ll find series creator George R.R. Martin staying mum on fire-breathing animals and talking up his latest rotoscope animated short, Night of the Cooters, in his Santa Fe, Nm stomping ground.
The Vincent D’Onofrio-directed cowboys vs. aliens film based on the Howard Waldrop short story is one of four short movies Martin is producing in what is shaping up to be an anthology either for the big screen (a la Creepshow) or TV.
Night of the Cooters follows a crusty Texas sheriff, played by D’Onofrio, who musters up his townspeople to take on an invading UFO. The pic played last night at the Martin-owned Jean Cocteau Cinema, where the Game of Thrones architect sat for a Q&a as part...
