He acted in William Shakespeare's play, "Julius Caesar," at the Nottingham Playhouse in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England with John Turner, Christopher Hancock, John Shrapnel, Alan Dossor, Matthew Guinness, Will Knightley, Donald Sumpter, Wendy Allnutt, and Ursula Smith in the cast. Michael Rudman was director.
Educated at Broad Street Secondary Modern School in Coventry. After school he was briefly employed as an office clerk before studying acting at the Birmingham School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art.
