Played against his usual naive and wander-lusting type as a cool and conniving murder suspect on an episode of the TV series Perry Mason (1957) that was titled The Case of the Scarlet Scandal (1966).

During the Korean War, he served for two years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a cryptographer in Paris, serving as a Corporal with SHAPE. Following his enlistment, he enrolled as a graduate student at U.C.L.A. in their Cinema Arts department on the G. I. Bill.

He was an American actor who was most noted for playing the lead role of the young Eastern lawyer-turned-cowboy Tom Brewster and his look-alike outlaw cousin Abram Thomas, a.k.a. the Canary Kid, in the Western TV series Sugarfoot (1957), which ran on ABC from 1957 to 1961 and lasted 69 episodes (three of which featured the Canary Kid).

He attended Pomona College in Claremont, California, where he majored in Greek drama.
