When Germany invades Holland in 1940, a British intelligence officer and two Dutch diamond merchants go to Amsterdam to persuade the Dutch diamond merchants to evacuate their diamond supplies to England.

Norman, a stockroom worker at a London store, aspires to be a window dresser. Pursuing his dream, he falls for a shopgirl and they uncover a robbery plot, miraculously foiling the thieves.

Follows three women through their first day of freedom after they are released from prison.

David Preston, a banker, has a 24-hour memory lapse. Accused of robbery and murder, he can't account for his lost time. With no alibi, police press him to explain the missing hours, jeopardizing his freedom.

Belle (Melina Mercouri) is a tempestuous Gypsy girl who is after Sir Paul Deverill (Keith Michell). Her plan is to marry him and take him for every cent he has before moving on to other lovers.

Norman is the oldest orphan at Greenwood Children's Home and now acts as their caretaker. All the orphans are very happy and well cared for. The adventures start when a nasty property developer (boo hiss!) who is also the chairman of the orphanage board wants to close the orphanage and build a factory on the site. The children are sent to Brighton for the day and Norman is very excited because he's "never seen the sea". When they get back, they discover the plan to close the orphanage and must decide what to do.

A sailor named Albert is late for his own wedding, but a bigger problem occurs when he gets a message from the Navy saying he can't marry for certain legal reasons. Everyone jumps to conclusions and thinks there's another woman out there with a claim of some kind.
