- In her bed on Christmas Eve, a little girl reads an illustrated storybook entitled "The Monster's Christmas" to her teddy bear as something sneaks around in the trees outside her window. She hears a noise in the other room, and thinking that it's Father Christmas, she goes to investigate. Instead she finds one of the monsters from her book, who has come to find someone to help defeat an evil witch who has stolen the voices of all monsters because they sang Christmas carols better than she did. The little girl agrees to help, and armed with the contents of her Christmas stocking she sets out on a surreal, imaginative, electronically-sounded, novelly avant-garde, one-of-a-kind, brain-tickling, foam-monster-populated outdoor fantasy adventure through smoky fields, magical forests, boiling, bubbling mud pools, volcanic landscapes, and secret witch mountain cave lairs in this criminally-obscure monster Christmas fantasy epic TV mini-movie toybox from New Zealand.
- It was only after her death that the work of New Zealand writer, Katherine Mansfield, became well known, thanks to her editor and husband, John Middleton-Murry. She had left New Zealand to travel around France, and she died there from tuberculosis. Thirty three years later, Middleton-Murry is invited to France to approve a new edition of her collected letters and journals, and there he meets a young woman, Marie Taylor (also from NZ) who reminds him strongly of his dead wife. As the two become friends, Marie starts reading old correspondence between Mansfield and her husband, and discovers the true nature of their relationship and that Mansfield's dying wishes regarding her writings have been ignored by the manipulative, and less-than-honest, Middleton-Murry.
