At a California university, Lyn goes to meet her best friend Melanie in the dorm room of Melanie's boyfriend Ron, a football star. When Lyn arrives, Melanie is not there. Ron forces himself on Lyn. When she resists, Ron throws her on the bed and rapes her. Lyn initially tries to forget about it, but when she does decide to pursue a university hearing, the pressure of Melanie, Ron, and the school is brought to bear...

A TV reporter and cameraman are taken hostage on a tugboat while covering a workers strike. The demands of the hostage-takers are to collect all the nuclear detonators in the Charleston, SC area so they may be detonated at sea. They threaten to detonate a nuclear device of their own if their demand isn't met.

Terrorists launch an attack against the USA. Their first strike is by a suicide squad that detonates a truckload of explosives at an army base in Washington DC. FBI probes indicate that the attack is by terrorists led by Iranians. Subsequent attacks are via airplanes exploded in mid-air, crowded restaurants, and an attack on a mall. Administration cabinet heads push the President (Hal Holbrook) to retaliate. The director of the FBI (Peter Strauss) believes that there may be more to the story than the investigation has revealed and the Secretary of Defense (Paul Winfield) is the only other person urging caution.

A family seeks justice after their daughter is assaulted in jail and the law does nothing to protect her.

Jack Duggan (Weaver), works as a supervisor in the automotive industry and has been given the task of laying off his subordinates because with the new computer operations their jobs are obsolete. Some people would be kept on, Duggan included. But Duggan has a secret that will keep him from doing his new job. Rather than admit his secret, he resigns "in protest of the layoffs."

A successful woman's life is irrevocably changed when she is diagnosed with A.L.S. and ultimately finds her living situation impossible to endure.

The first Iraq war saw many tragedies and many acts of heroism. This is the story of the conflict seen through the eyes of the men and women involved.
