In the 90's and 00's we had some massive big movies with a WWII setting like Saving Private Ryan in 1998.
Enemy at the Gates could easily be seen as a "Soviet Saving Private Ryan", but it's more like a Hollywood caricature of a movie.
All Soviets are played by British actors for some reason with a thick British accent and mannerism. Some exceptions do exist of course with the Soviet, over the top, evil generals.
I wouldn't really mind if it wasn't for the fact that the movie took its title from a very famous book about the battle of Stalingrad.
NOTHING in this movie is accurate, but this was by far the depiction many people had of the battle of Stalingrad. 3 years before, Antony Beevor made an amazing book about the battle, and there are many great stories to be told, but not a story of a sniper duel and "1 person shoots, 1 carries ammo" idiocy.
I thought the movie was awesome when I was 13, but today I think the movie is super dumb. There are some great epic scenes of course, and many of them were directly implemented into the 2003 video game Call of Duty 1 and, later on, Call of Duty 2 which forever made it "true".
It definitely is a war movie made like a video game, which makes it kind of sacrilegious to the legacy of this horrific event.
The historical inaccuracies are dreadful in 2025.
Now on a positive note the actors are amazing! All of them get my 4 stars. It's not their fault that the movie is so fake.

This is a great documentary, 50 years after the disaster itself. Seeing that nobody has written a review yet I'm happy to be the first since the popularity of the 2025 video game Atomfall which is set in Windscale in 1957.
The documentary tells a story not just of the disaster, but 2/3 of the documentary talks about post WWII Europe and the aspiration of Great Britain to not lose its foothold as a super power, being forever behind the new greats of USA and the Soviet Union.
It tells a story of great scientists achieving wonders with relaitvely small means, but being pushed by political agendas, rather than math. With dire consequences.
The interviews of people invovled are just great. Seeing these old men and women tell their story 50 years after the event is wonderful, with a great sense of British manner and even humor.
I'd never heard of this disaster before, but the documentary is great and fully available on YouTube for all to see.
Highly recommended!

Sadako 3D... a movie trying to cash in on the 3D craze of the 2010's that started with Avatar.
Unfortunately the 3D effects reminds me more of Jaws 3D or Friday the 13th part III (3D). Static shots specifically supposed to be in 3D, not the movie being in actual 3D.
Just like in the 80's when this gimmick ran its course the last time it sucked in the 2010's as well and died out by the end of the decade.
This movie takes a gimmick and combines it with a dead franchise of Ringu/Sadako. Unfortunately they have no real story except for a cursed... YouTube video... another gimmick.
The acting is actually OK at times for the main cast, but the cinematography is absolutely awful - worse than Ring Kanzenban, a TV movie from 1995. There is a giant lack of music and therefore also atmosphere, in a movie that was made for atmosphere.
No, this isn't a Ringu movie at all. It's a weird cash grab, a failed revival that still plague the series to this date.
The Ring franchise died in 2002 with the American remake being the last worthwhile movie.
