Wonderfully mature and well-acted movie. I've always enjoyed Annabella Sciorra, and I think this is her best performance to date. The material is darkly comedic and quite moving. Definitely an emotional experience-funny in ways I haven't seen many other movies be, and uniquely touching too. Seek it out if you can, I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

This is by far Dan Lotz's most 'commercial' film and as such it stands a great chance of being a gateway film for people into the world of truly independent filmmaking, or as Dan calls it, 'folk filmmaking'. What that means is filmmaking by the people, often for budgets that are so low it's hard for a lot of people to imagine a film could be made for that amount. But these films are made, and they are quite good. The Long Con was made for $3000 and it does not show. There is a lot of artistry on display here, but also a lot of technical prowess, and of course talent. It is an unusual film, but it is an accessible one. Very tense and quirky. I think this should please most audiences.

Dan Lotz doesn't care about your suspension of disbelief. With CHLORINE he tells the story of a very unlikely hitman, and a bunch of organized crime guys that look nothing like what we've come to expect. This is done with such confidence that the film takes on a surreal, unsettling, almost unreliable narrator-esque quality-and never breaks, never winks. It assumes we are intelligent enough to get what's going on. I love what Dan has accomplished here-CHLORINE is way less obsessed with itself than something like MR. ROBOT, but hits similar unsettling meta notes. I'd compare it to DARK HORSE, one of Solondz' best films. Take the journey-you'll be glad you did.
