Since Eternals landed on cable TV, I've caught bits and pieces. At first, I understood why the audience didn't warm to it. It felt like a campy drama trying to add some sincerity to the Marvel franchise. From what I saw, neither the characters nor the story really earned the sincerity it aimed for. Recently, I watched Deadpool and Wolverine on Disney+, and when Eternals aired again on FX, I decided to watch it all the way through. I absolutely loathed Deadpool and Wolverine-they were the worst of the worst, yet they made a billion dollars. People love that movie, while they hate Eternals. Watching Eternals in this context, I just can't understand it.

At least Eternals is earnest. I can't say I was particularly impressed by it, though. There's a lot going on, but the gravity of the situation never truly lands. But that could be said for any Marvel movie. Every one of them tries to convince you that the world is ending and needs to be saved by some hero. In retrospect, I can appreciate that the filmmakers were genuinely trying to create something meaningful. If Deadpool and Wolverine can hold a 7.6 rating with over 50% of reviewers giving it an 8 or higher, then Eternals is at least a 10.

It's not really, but it's definitely not worse than Deadpool and Wolverine.

Perhaps I am a philostene for saying this...the best musical I have ever seen.

The movie touched me deeply and sparked feelings of joy and love. I've been thinking about it all day and even started singing in the car to a soundcloud mix by frequency without control. As I was nearing my street, I was overwhelmed with the impulse to tell my girlfriend I love her. I think that's a direct effect from the movie. It was absolutely beautiful.

The performances were grand and I empathized with each character. The singing was really pretty and the classical music accompaniment set the mood brilliantly. Definitely going to watch it many times over the course of my life until The End!

I don't understand the Wolverine lore. Is the reason that Wolverine gets an entire franchise built around him simply because Hugh Jackman has greater depth than James Marsden?

Anyway, the movie is a Ryan Reynolds commercial. He uses the Deadpool character to promote his brand. Free Guy was on television the day before I checked this out on Disney+ and it felt like Deadpool was just a "adult humor" version of Guy. His acting for mint mobile commercials is pretty similar as well. The running line of course is Ryan Reynolds himself and he definitely wants you to know he is Ryan Reynolds. Who's Wade Wilson? Who's Deadpool? Doesn't matter, Ryan Reynolds matters.

Saw an article recently titled "Ryan Reynolds is destroying cinema". I thought it was a joke until I saw Deadpool & Wolverine. Damn, I think it might be true. And Hugh Jackman, the greatest showman, supports it. Holy smokes, what a world.
