I unfortunately saw this movie while flipping through streaming shows. It is about a grifter saved by a fellow churchmember, but in reality this entire film feels like a grift to take money from christians for a horrible movie that totally missed out on jesus's teachings. If you are a christian and looking for a good feel good movie with morals this isnt it, this is just a scam to take your money from you. Do you wonder why there are so many 10/10 reviews yet the movie has a total rating of 2, its because all those reviews are not real, they are just part of the scam of the movie, make you think its a good quality christian movie when it is nothing of the sort.
Anyway, from the covert art and screen image it looked like it was a fun parody on televangelists vs real christians so i thought lets give it a try. And i really wish i had that hour back in my life, i honestly feel dumber and just dirty watching this scam of a movie.
First off, there is a not a country on earth this movie could ever be considered a 10, and it just goes to show how dishonest and brigaded the reviews are. You are telling me this show is better than citizen kane, the godfather, 12 angry men, the shawshank redemption, and i could go on and on and on. These 10/10 of new reviews are nothing but a farce meant to trick viewers into spending money and watching something that is a horrible movie in every regard.
The plot makes little sense and seems to change throughout the movie but i guess that happens when you are the writer, director, star, producer and your name isnt clint eastwood. This is just some rich guys vanity project and it shows. Second is this a parody, a comedy, a drama, i just cant tell its so completely over the top and ridiculous. Parts are filmed like its a 10 year olds tiktok video and other parts look shot on a vhs camcorder. I even tried appreciating this movie as one of those movies so bad its good, aka MST3000 but even viewing it with that perspective it was a bomb.
Characters and character development are all over the place from completely non-existant, to utilizing every stereotype in the book, its gets to the point where its honestly just embarassing. The whole sister thing is just weird, and why does she dress up like the second she leaves church she is out ready to walk the street corners? Also, whoever did the ward robe on this should be fired instantly, its like they got a discount on every costume not used in the last 20 years and said i will take them all.
Overall this movie is absolutely horrible. If you want to watch a Christmas or religious movie then there are a thousand better. To me this is just a grift, a cheap homemade movie made out to be Christian themed but its not. Its made to take christians money and not deliver on anything.

"Reality shows" are the bane of the TV, and I put that in quotes because they are not real, it is all scripted and created by the producers and yet millions of people buy into this 3rd rate con and keep coming back for more.
Like the whole motorhome episode, it was as if the producers were thinking what can we fake to cause a bunch of non-sense drama and then the intern said, "hey lets have the family get an RV and then we can get a bunch of canned shots of fake arguments about it." Or how about the episode where the 14 year old male kid (when you have 22 of them its really hard to remember all of the names) uses his amazing math skills to figure out our family budget, that one just had me shaking my head saying sure that happened, and then the family (heck the entire city) clapped and praised the genius child, hah.
Also funny how they seem like they are so trying to save for money while in later episodes you see the mom walking about in 1k shoes while searching for country homes and taking some lavish vacations. Then you do a little research and they cleared 1 million pounds in advertisement revenue alone (not counting their pay for the show or the money from the bakery) oh and also dont forget they are taking benefits from the government of around 10k per year.
I remember back when to gain fame or notoriety on TV one had to have an actual talent, one had to be smart, or athletic, or a magician or whatever. The talent this family appears to possess is their mother is a broodmare and the father gives so little care about to his wife's health he makes sure as soon as the new (youngest) kid is off the nip a new one is in the belly to take his/her place.
Also when drama is happening pay attention to what everyone is wearing, because the continuity is just plain awful. You can tell they are re-using shots from entirely different episodes for sound bites and for creating "fake" arguments and then splicing them into current shots. And notice where the camera is when they get so called surprises, like how did the camera get inside the room before they supposedly ever saw it, so very fake.
I would highly suggest anyone thinking of watching this show to just dont. It has no legitimate entertainment value, it teaches nothing, everything is fake and staged, and if you really think about the situation its really screwed up. I have always been a HST fan and have read nearly all his books and seen all the movies based on the books or about HST in general. He has a style that is very difficult to take from paper and put on the screen but this movie takes a shot at it and for the most part succeeds. First of this is not Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, a wonderful movies btw, but rather this movie has a more straightforward plot, that being Hunter's run for sheriff in Aspen in 1970. It is based on his articles in rolling stone (called the battle for aspen) detailing his campaign to unite the freaks and outcasts of aspen to get rid of the corrupt politicians that are selling their paradise to land developers. Its almost the plot of any of those bad 1980s ski movies about the evil developer coming to town and the people coming together to fight against it, only in this movie hunter carries a gun and the freaks dont win.
HST is a notoriously difficult character to portray correctly, he has such distinct mannerisms in how he talked and interacted with people, and it doesnt help that the previous attempts were delivered by hollywood heavyweights like murray and depp. But i have to give bulger credit for getting the essence of HST and not going too overboard. I do wish we got to see more character development and especially more interactions with his family because if youve read his works you know there was a lot of family drama going on at this time as well that we dont get to see in the movie. Anyway bulger's acting is solid enough to keep you entertained about the character and his shenanigans (like dumping contaminated water on the city council floor,) and there were occasions, like the speech at the end after his team lost the election, that really nailed the angst and ennui of the late 60s and early 70s. All in all, this movie is more direct and straight forward than Where the Buffalo Roam and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as it follows a single linear story line about the run for office, but it is still weird enough to capture the essence of HST. I was engaged for the entire movie (even knowing what was going to happen) and found myself laughing several times. This movie has its flaws and isnt perfect but most people will find it an entertaining way to kill 90 minutes.
