50 first dates + the vow. Can't help the comparison. but, in fairness, this movie has a more sound morale.

Zachary Levi played a good leading man in the movie, along with the appealing leading lady, rightful for romantic movies girls can swoon over.

practically, the flow has a stereotypical romantic movie storyline. but, i like how there was sound presentation and development of the different views and characters of the two subjects; how their inclination also reflect their perspective. how each choice was reasonable relative to the character. and the circumstances in the movie were practical.

teaches you how love is a choice. sweet movie.

If you were enraptured by the book, this film magnificently presents the text into a film. it is a great example of a film BASED on a book. the film does not and cannot stand on its own.

the book explored great ideas of existence / religion, goes deep into loneliness, fear, love, family, survival, death, companionship or life in general. that is the key element as to why the movie can not stand on it's own. because the lessons from the book will only be learned through the book.

what's so great about the film is that, it may not teach all those ideals in depth, but it makes you realize them with the character. the movie is an experience. it is a marvelous journey with Pi.

as far as the technicalities of the film, acting, directing, editing, cinematography, effects, score, screenplay... nothing short of BRILLIANT. it was probably best described by the Oscar recipients themselves, as a feat that was seemingly impossible but at the end of the day, well done.

because Pi's undertaking may have not been an effective and awe- inspiring delivery by just a mediocre actor. the majesty and the perils of the pacific was excellently presented. the unfolding of the story was sound.

1 notch down a 10 of 10, because the film would only make complete and utter sense and value with the book.

The movie actually has a spirit that potentially could have been a real endearing story. but the screenplay and the whole of the film was not able to bring it life.

the movie is not what it seems. presumably i thought the movie would be inclined to the sexual sense of innocence and love, as its trailer and posters appeals. but there was essentially more to the film than romantic and sexual love. it touches the surface of family, marriage and the whole concept of love. which at first is quite engaging. the character of Alex Pettyfer was supposedly the beacon of all this, and Gabriella Wilde's character was accordingly the symbol of innocence. surrounded by some colorful characters.

an endless love... for a late member of the family, for a first love, for a persevering marriage, for a difficult father-son relationship. an innocence... of love, of freedom, of truth. it could have been a inspiring and affectionate film with that as the backbone. you could see sparks of it but not quite a firework. but the sequence later on becomes too predictable and not as cordial. it settles as an OK romantic film.
