Look, you all knew what this was going in. So throw all logic out the window, the concept of "background checks" (seriously?) and divest yourself of all that sensible nonsense... and just enjoy the movie, right?
This is a fun, funny and enjoyable film about a Florida bartender who finds herself in the NASA Astronaut program through fudged circumstance. It's a shame this only has an average 5-star rating, because this movie is fun all the way through.
The main actress is enjoyable as are the supporting cast. The cast was well-chosen for their parts. Is the script ludicrous? Of course it is! We knew it would be from the previews. But it is FUN ludicrous, which is all it's meant to be.
But it's more than that. It's about having a dream and pursuing it no matter what. Because despite the lack of logic, the senselessness and the improbabilities presented in the script... far more ludicrous things happen in real life and have amazing results.
So I recommend just leaving attitude and expectations at the door, strapping in and enjoying the ride. Because that's what this is-- a fun ride of a movie. Expecting anything more would be demanding too much. ;D.

Without spoilers and simply stated: this movie is great is every aspect until the very end, where they pretty much leave the audience hanging without satisfactory explanation, many strings un-tied, and a extremely important plot-line unrevealed.
This movie has good acting, great directing and CGI, terrific characters and actors and a reasonably good story so long as to suspend all disbelief going in. Because frankly, the science in this goes beyond even science fiction into pure fantasy. Two worlds of totally opposite exact gravities existing within one another's atmospheres, neither planet rotating (or maybe both planets orbiting around one another in absolute precise symmetry?). Let's just say one needs to throw science out the window and just enjoy the movie.
There are many inconsistencies in the movie. Sometimes certain properties burn, other times they don't... without states clear distinction of why that is. The stuff gets hot and yet it never occurs to anyone to pack it in dry ice? (DUH) I could list more but then we would get into spoilers, so not going there.
This was a mixture of absolutely fantastic combined with a serious let-down ending that just blows the whole film to shreds.
Is it worth watching? I'm not so sure it is. That will depend on the viewer and what they are willing to tolerate. If you don't mind movies with endings that just leave you hanging with about a doze unanswered questions, you might enjoy this. Otherwise, despite the incredibly good effects and directing and acting, the story overall is a major disappointment that leaves it to the viewer to figure out what happens next. Bleh.

This anime has gotten high reviews, and for good reason. The story is good (if sometimes illogical). The characters are pristine, extremely well-developed. The anime is sharp... not too flashy or excessive. There are lessons to be learned throughout the series.
The downside to all of this is occasional gore that may turn one's stomach. In some cases it is needlessly excessive and in one case-- in which a man's body is completely cut in half-- one has to wonder how it is the perpetrator was not arrested and executed.
These things distracted from the series more than benefited it. We understand that this is a battle-based anime and that there is going to be some violence and bloodshed, but at times they went over the top and even jumped the shark. Fortunately this was not a regular occurrence, allowing one to enjoy the anime in general. But the scenes where they did go over the top tend to remain in one's mind, and do the series no justice.
Imagine a plate of gourmet food with a dead mouse on the side of the plate. It just one little dead mouse; the rest of the food is good, right? So be forewarned: those sensitive to such things may not enjoy this anime, despite its positive aspects. Had this been considerably less gory I might have given this series ten stars, but the scenes where they overdid it cost them both in plot and rating stars.
