I came here to drop my review about the film, which I had seen roughly 15 years ago, and how it didn't seem as good to me as the first time I watched it. Apparently this a shared feeling.

Has the movie aged badly or we did? Lol.

One thing you can't deny is that it's an iconic film: it has crystal clear influenced the outstanding Mr. Robot, for instance. While watching it I also remembered V for Vendetta, as well as movies that have the same frantic pace, such as Snatch.

Though it was good to rewatch, not really because of the attachment to the story itself (I honestly don't intend to see it again) but to recognize it's cultural influence in so many following works that we like, I honestly will no longer "talk about it".

It seemed pretty dated and kinda tedious and odd at some point. Pointless rebellion? Rege against the machine? A world-saving militia? Nah, this is pretty teenager's stuff.

The final scene with the Pixies playing is unforgettable, I'll give the film that.

I got hit by the hype train.

It couldn't be different, though: a movie directed by Nolan (who made the all time greatest Interstellar) about the frontman of the project that conceived the doomsday weapon couldn't help but raise high expectations.

Well, I fell off the horse.

It seemed to be that the script was a little to hurried, specially in the early part, with many abrupt cuts; scenes that seemed interrupted. With all due respect, an horrorshow.

The plot is good, after all it is based on one of the most fascinating stories of humanity.

The use (I mean abuse) of the greatest scientific discoveries of the time to build a weapon with the potential to destroy the world is something that, I believe, will take centuries of meditation to be properly understood.

But I don't know, something seems to be missing... I didn't feel that touch of wonder Nolan usually puts in his films, that we know so well from Interestelar, Inception or even Tenet.

PS: For those who haven't read "un Verdor Terrible", by Benjamin Labatut, it's really worth it, as the book explores the boundaries between reason and madness of these characters involved with quantum physics (and with weapons of mass destruction, consequently).

The movie is good, but the book is much better.

First off, Wendy is one of the most detestable characters I've ever seen in my life. And Marty, with his passivity and submissiveness of his (but with such kind eyes...) is also quite detestable.

For me it is impossible not to associate Marty Byrde with Adolf Eichmann: of course there is a difference in the magnitude of the actions of one and the other and even in "intelligence", but both were similar at the core: ordinary men, even "orderly", but able to perpetrate barbarities under a justification that, for them, was plausible and acceptable.

Ozark is the show of great hypocrisies, and that's why it's so good. It is the series that exposes how most people and even institutions with a social purpose (such as the FBI and Congress) can give up their values and their missions to reap immediate yields and benefit themselves and their leaders. It is the story of the prevalence of pragmatism (the end justifies the means) rather than utilitarianism (the happiness of the majority over my own).

And that's why I liked Ruth Langmore: 'cause of hers authenticity and bond to her roots and her "ethics", even if it's kinda warped moral code.
