I've heard so many mixed feelings on this movie. Some people love it, some people hate it. I personally thought it was quite good...good enough that I saw it twice in fact. While this is not my absolute favorite of the Trek movies (First Contact still holds that title) it's definitely right up there. I thought the plot was very interesting, with some definite twists in there and a very surprising ending! (no, I most certainly won't give it away... if you're curious you'll just have to go see it for yourself) I've heard a lot of negative things on the villian, Shinzon, as well. People saying he's too sensitive, and not "evil" enough. I personally thought he was a wonderfully complex character. You could really tell that he had some inner conflicts going on. I think what made it even more interesting was that it seemed he kind of saw Picard as a father figure, and his only link to the past he could of had and who he could have been...but Picard was still his enemy, and in the way of is goal, and as long as he were still around, Shinzon would remain a shadow without purpose...but there were times you could tell he wasn't completely certain of what he really wanted to do. Shinzon is definitely one of my favorite Trek villians of all time...possibly my number one fave. The only real problem I had with the movie was that it seemed a little too fast-paced. I know a lot of scenes were cut to shorten the length of the film, and I think that left a little too many battle scenes compared to a little too few character development scenes. In my opinion, had those scenes not been cut the movie would have been a lot better. I greatly look forward to the DVD...where we will hopefully get to see the movie in its entirety...as it should have been released.

Good movie...I give it a 9 out of 10.

Okay, I'm really not a big fan of fantasy. I'm a scifi fanatic at heart and just tend to not get into fantasy films. This movie, however, was excellent. I'd not read the books before seeing it. I'd been terrified by the animated version when I was very little, and therefore avoided anything having to do with LotR until now. I found the preview interesting, and was curious as to what all the hype was about. So I went and saw the movie. I was completely blown away. This film did not just have an excellent plot (which of course is tolkien's doing) but it was a beautiful film. The scenery was astounding, the lighting, the sets....it all kept my eyes glued to the screen. And the music was excellent as well. The characters were very believable. You really forgot for the time that you were sitting in a theater, and got really into the story. I've since started reading the books. Different as they are from my usual choices of Star Trek and Dune, I'm really enjoying them, and glad that this film inspired me to look into something I missed out on when I was younger.

I recommend this film for anyone who appreciates a good story, good characters, and a visually pleasing movie...not just the fantasy fans!

I'm not a big fan of TV in general, there are so few shows out there worth watching. The only show I really would willingly give up an hour of my time to watch is Star Trek....and then I discovered SG-1. I'd seen the movie at some point in my life...it was interesting, I was probably too young to get much out of it thought. Then, one summer, when I was bored and computerless, I flipped to the scifi channel and started watching this show that was on (which happened to be sg-1). I instantly loved it. Great characters who all work brilliantly together. The thing I love most about the show, is the humor. Too many shows these days try to be funny and end up rather stupid and boring, but this show delivers a healthy dose of humor every episode that never ceases to amuse me. I really didn't think I'd like the character of Jack much...didn't like him at all in the movie...but Richard Dean Anderson brings a wonderful change to the character in the show with comedy enough to rival my personal favorite "funny scifi guy", Brent Spiner (Data of Star Trek: TNG). And we certainly can't forget Michael Shanks' excellent performance as Daniel Jackson...my favorite character of the show. The lack of Daniel last season was the one thing I've ever been truely unhappy about with SG-1...but Daniel fans will soon be treated with a new season and his return.
