While we have all been through the rollercoaster that is the DCEU future over the past few years, Superman could possibly be up there with one of the greatest superhero films of all time even in a world with the iconic Batman films . I didn't honestly think Gunn would come out with such a bang on this as he did. The suicide squad was fun and showed his signature style but this is on a different level entirely . The bombastic visuals are usual and packed to the brim, but what this film does best is deliver an emotional aspect that hasn't been this prevalent in the genre for a long time . That's what I think will stick with people more than the action. I don't want to get into detail too much as we are very early in the reviews but this will have people blown away and fully ready to embrace the Gunnverse. I even say that as a massive fan of the Snyderverse . ..
The Disney regime of Predator has been rather odd to me . They have tapped Trachtenberg to be the all seeing vision for the property and are basically letting him go all out . They're definitely attempting new and innovative ideas which is intriguing but something still feels off and rushed. While Prey had its moments it still felt like it didn't live up to what it could've been and budget was misused . That's the feeling I get while watching this . It has moments of the classic predator themes and intensity but then veers off into the human side of things far too much to the point where you wonder why was this their final product. I also wonder why they can't seem to get the budget to make this as a live action film. Hopefully badlands can be solid but at this point I just don't know what they're doing aside from pushing agendas .
I don't honestly know how people keep falling for a24's scam. Everything they've ever done for their "horror" ends up being absolutely dull and full of meaningless drawn out exposition. The actors are bland and wooden. The subject matter is even more uninspired .They follow the same playbook on every title they pump out. Hype it up with social media trending ads. Say something along the lines of "the scariest movie of the year". And like clockwork people flock to it . This is yet another bait and switch and goes nowhere . Camerawork is passable as it does have some decent angles and ideas. Aside from that it's a drama disguised as horror once again. Please don't bring her back.
