William Fitchner 10 out of 10 stars

At the bottom it's asking me if I am revealing any spoilers? Let me tell you I really wish I had a spoiler to reveal, like in ending. I was pleasantly surprised by William Fitchners character. He is usually the rogue FBI guy or the bad guy etc. etc. but in this movie he was very mild mannered very shy very meek I have never seen this side to him before. I loved this part for him and he played it beautifully. What I didn't like was not knowing what happened after he sat down and looked at his tomato. I didn't know If he was suicidal I didn't know if he was going to go back to the house and say hey I was defending myself or if his wife was going to come in and be the wife that she is or the Alex blah blah blah or if The car salesman was going to possibly show up in a skirt with a wig because you know he can pull that off really well. I'm just angry because I'm sick and tired of movies that don't have an ending to them or an ending that makes any sense William Fechner, You are awesome you played your part beautifully it was really nice to see you as a good guy🐾💕

Slow, no traction indie flick.

From the looks of the movie poster, I thought it would be an exciting thriller with enough mystery and suspense to give you an edge-of-your-seat experience. Instead, what we got was a mediocre movie about a man named Mike (William Fichtner), who likes to garden, finding himself getting smitten with a younger woman who moves in next door with her hot-tempered boyfriend.

Fichtner portrayed his Mike character to be very shy, meek, and mild; however, the results was painfully awkward. You actually feel uncomfortable to be in Fichtner's shoes and you cannot really tell if it was just bad acting or if that is how the character was supposed to be.

While there are some mysterious moments in the movie, including the suspicions of abuse in the hands of the young woman's boyfriend, much of the movie gives you the run around, hinting at excitement and traction but resulting in anti-climatic deliveries. And, much of the supporting characters weren't sympathetic. Mike's wife (Jean Louisa Kelly) was an unforgiving annoying little thing and his son (Colin Woodell) served no purpose in the movie. Mike's friend Brian (Erich Anderson) was an irritating jerk who cusses like a sailor, trying too hard insert some macho-ness in the movie.

Overall, the film is slow with no traction.

Grade D.

Modern

Modern audience wants violence, twists and more, with this You don't get that So many reviews give it a 1 ! Really unfair, yes it's a slow moving film but its still quite deep or sleep to the rest.. The acting is good and you can see where it's going, the people who knock it are probably better off with Marvel films ! Cause this sensitive story doesn't carry any weapons, just a slice of thought. Ok, it's not a Oscar winner but it holds a lot truths about people growing older, and it's much closer to true life than robot-Men blasting around the universe.

Honest Review

This film is about a middle-aged man living a mundane life until a couple move into the house next door.

Let me start this by saying that this isn't awful but it's not great either. Our main character is, in my opinion, a strange duck. He comes off as awkward and sorta creepy but that may have been intentional for the emphasis about how stagnant his life is. He's a bit pervy too. He's constantly eavesdropping, gawking at and inserting himself into positions that provide an opportunity to interact with his female neighbor. He also wants to be heroic but when he has the chance he fails to speak his mind.

I'm probably not gonna watch this again. The movie had a slow pace and it was less than thrilling. I didn't care for the way it ended. The acting, camera work and storyline were decent but it is a low budget movie. If you want to kill some time, check it out. If you are looking for dark thrills, you should look elsewhere.

As slow as a turtle, but your memory'll forget this one happily very fast!

My only connection with this film was the beloved William Fichtner, Master of Supporting Actors. But even his presence here couldn't save this mistake. All ingredients of The Neighbore are one big laugh to all movie fans. Story, cast and plot are far below zero, it's a shame and a complete waste of money to realize such boring movies. Nothing happens in 90 minutes, so the best thing is to use this flick as a sleep maker in case you are suffering from insomnia. And whenever you notice some relation problems, you're right, it's all about that. But instead of councelling sessions for the neighbors, writers, director and their main crew should go in therapy before making another attempt to enjoy us, movie fans. I was just waiting 90 minutes for something to happen but there's nothing to mention here other than this advice: avoid watching this so-called thriller/drama; nothing to thrill and the only drama happens inside yourself, left behind in boredom with a touch of bitterness.

Slow-Paced But Effective

I needed to sit with this for a couple of days and give it some thought before I could actually write anything about it. To me, that's a good sign. This was a movie that required some reflection rather than just a knee jerk reaction. My initial reaction to it (even as I watched it) mirrored many of the comments I've seen made about it. It's very slow paced, and there are perhaps times when you wonder what the point of it is - if there is any real point. I've realized that maybe that is the point - that there's no real point to the movie. Not in a comedic "Seinfeld" sort of way, but in a more dramatic, slice of life fashion. We're just watching a guy whose life is slowly falling apart - and, at least for a while, he doesn't even realize that it's falling apart. As Mike, I thought William Fichtner put on a superb performance. He's a middle aged guy with a predictable but satisfactory life. His wife loves him, he loves his wife. They both have careers. They have a home. There might be a bit of tension with his son (the movie hints that the father-son relationship isn't perfect) but - hey - even that's part of real life. Basically, things are OK for Mike - if a little bit predictable. And then, into the middle of this predictable, "satisfactory" life, he gets new neighbours: Jenna and Scott. They're a young, attractive, friendly and outgoing couple. And Mike starts to fall for Jenna.

That's where things go off track. Maybe until Jenna appeared he hadn't even realized that his life - being satisfactory - was actually a little unsatisfactory to him. And instead of choosing to spice up his own life and marriage, he falls for the fantasy. He gets increasingly obsessed with Jenna. It's a typical mid-life crisis, helped along by a friend of his who sees the spark with Jenna and encourages him to go with it - after all, in the eyes of his friend this is apparently how you keep your own marriage happy. This was where Fichtner really shone I thought. He's a quiet, soft spoken, kind of dull guy. He moves slowly, he speaks slowly, there doesn't seem to be much passion in him. Everything about him screams "average" and "typical." There's nothing outstanding about him. But he likes Jenna. Perhaps innocently at first. Even his wife teases him about having a "crush" on Jenna. But it grows and it grows. And Jenna's life isn't blissful either. Scott turns out to be a less than ideal husband, and Mike starts to think he's abusive toward Jenna. Jenna needs consoling - someone to make her feel better. And Mike's right there. And they connect. They kiss. Nothing more than that, but it's moving in the direction of something bigger. Jenna, to be honest, is a more or less sympathetic character. You can understand her starting to fall for a guy who's everything that her husband isn't - kind, attentive, gentle, helpful. But you're increasingly appalled by Mike. He had a good life - and he's throwing it all away. And the whole movie becomes this study of Mike, and his relationships with Jenna, and his wife, and ultimately with Scott - who definitely notices something's going on.

I've seen Fichtner in a few things, and I have to admit that he's never really stood out from the crowd for me - but in this, he nailed the part. And I would credit Jessica McNamee as well. I'm totally unfamiliar with her, but she also captured the part of Jenna. At first, she's the young woman in the seemingly normal, happy marriage, but McNamee gradually and effectively reveals layers to the character as the movie went on. These were two very good performances. Admittedly, this movie isn't going to be for everyone. Those who've become accustomed to high-octane all-action films are going to find this a frustrating "slog" to say the least. It's driven by character and not action. It's about life - it's not a fantasy - and there's a certain believability to it. But a lot of people don't want to watch a movie about life. They want an escape. I get that. So not everyone will appreciate this - and, as I said, it really took me a couple of days of mulling it over before I really came to fully appreciate it. I will say that after a pretty slow-paced movie, the ending came across to me as rather abrupt and left a lot hanging. After everything that went on, what actually happened to Mike? Perhaps the ending could have been a little bit tighter and been a better example of closure. All things considered, though, this is a very good movie, and a movie that's quite different from the blockbusters that get all the attention. (7/10)

Painful, uncomfortable, cringingly slow yet strangely interesting!

This is a unique film in that it is painfully slow and really uncomfortable. Never have I had to pause a film so many times just to recompose myself from the deep discomfort and embarrassment caused by the lead character.

I can't say I enjoyed it but it is unique and although it is incredibly slow it does keep you interested.

Waste of Time

I really like William Fitchner but how did he get involved in such a horribly, boring and predictable movie? I think his character was so weird and creepy and his neighbors were just as boring, too. I was waiting for something to happen, but it never did. Awful movie. I mean it was predictable, but I kept hoping it would get better. Fitchner's character was lame, non responsive and just slow in acting, talking, emoting basically everything!!! His wife was just as boring and colorless as he was and their female neighbor made a move on him (Mike) when they got stoned, but that was even creepier on her part. Actually, both of them seemed incongruous in their respective roles.

Don't waste your time

The only reason I gave this a 3 star is because of the acting, the story itself is a 1 star or less because its bland and builds very slowly. His wife starts problems for no reason but the neighbor girl script is pretty decent because people in abusive relationships are usually finding excuses to be with them or thinking they'll change. So take my word and ignore this title even if you're a fan of the actors. They all do a great job but it's ruined by the story.

Boring, slow, uninteresting

Aside from some decent acting, this movie was a wash. Pace was soooo slow. Plot was uninteresting. I kept waiting for something to happen. I should have turned it off then, but I watched til the end and wasted my time. I cannot say enough how boring and just a complete waste of time this movie was.

A Very Different Fitchner than we have seen before

I really enjoyed this! I love fitchner in the roles he has played in the past and to see him as a meek, introverted, weak minded individual was freakin bizzare but goes to show his range and his willingness to be seen in this light... cool story! sad story... well acted

(Very) Slow Burn but enjoyable

I have a penchant for familial dramas with a confined plot. The dialogue was authentic and actors all were believable in their roles. I'm 40 years old and I may not have enjoyed this movie at 25.

Loved this! Not what I was expecting..

This is the best acting performance I've ever seen William Fichtner do. And let me say first, this film is not what I was expecting- but I loved it. It's marketed as a thriller, but it's definitely more of a slow burn drama about a man who is unhappy with his life and becomes infatuated/obsessed with his young female neighbor who has her own problems. Never seen this actress before but wow, she's incredible. And somehow Michael Rosenbaum's character is both vile and charming simultaneously. Highly recommend watching this as a fantastic piece of film, acting, characters, and storyline. Just don't go in thinking it's some crazy thriller movie.

So slow it does not even merit a 30 minute episode

Acting was ok.

For some reason Fichtner looked like he was playing someone with autism or Dustin Hoffman in "The Lettuce" lol

Produced by William Fichtner as well - poor sod what a waste of money..all of the 50 cents and a bag of monkey nuts it must have cost!

Gosh this was a boring film and the denouement was not actually very interesting either! The accompanying funeral dirge of the awful sound of a Cello was most discordant and depressing as was the movie!

THIS IS NOT A THRILLER IN ANY WAY IT IS A DRAMA!!!

I guess the moral of the tale is just to keep yourself to yourself and avoid your neighbours - probably very good advice these days but could have been done in a 15 minute short!

Best thing about the movie is the music at the end credits!

I Honestly Don't Understand How Movies this Bad Get Made

This film cost at least a few million dollars. It's not like it was a high school film project, so people had to discuss this in some sort of serious manner. You have to wonder on the scripts Hollywood passes on if something this horrible is green-lighted.

There is so little to this film that it doesn't even merit a review. It would have made a mediocre 30 minute TV episode; as a feature it is a complete disaster.
