Avis à la une
Say what you want about this film but I'm a believer in responding to a movie within the context of its intentions. This is a solid indie comedy, great performances all around, well shot and put together considering what I imagine were its budgetary restrictions. I've read some reviews that seem to aggressively attack certain aspects of this film to a nonsensical degree. It was definitely funny, definitely well shot (unless you don't know what that actually means) and even though yes, it had script issues, it was an all around good time. Worth a watch for a good laugh on movie night, check it out.
I think audiences will be able to see themselves or someone they know in this movie. This film has a great premise that takes a few jabs at all the people in our society who will do anything to be in the spotlight. The film shows a few limitations of being on a tight budget, but overall, it looks good, the acting is good, and the lead characters are all interesting. It's really two stories in one - it starts out as a social commentary and then morphs into an escape/action flick. The film is a little bizarre and unpredictable - but that's a good thing as it kept my attention from start to finish. I can't say that for a lot of movies I see nowadays.
The movie starts out interesting enough. An ordinary man named Bob jumps the Camp David fence in his underwear in order "to get on the 11 o'clock news." Instead he's thrown into a mental asylum and threatens to commit suicide when the doctor tells him he will never be famous. He's given a heavy sedative and is knocked out cold. I get all that. After this moment, the film turns into "A Beautiful Mind" type movie because you're never sure if what Bob is going through is real or imagined. I guess it doesn't matter because when the story surprisingly veers off into an escape to assassinate Bin Laden, you're hooked. Full of laughs, adventure, and conflicted characters, what keeps you paying attention is to find out if all the people Bob encounters is real or just a dream. This is an unusual low budget movie as it takes on such a big story. But except for some minor flaws, Crazy Famous manages to pull it off.
This movie is wild and relatable because it directly pokes fun at our modern-day culture's obsession with being famous. The lead character, Bob, is a lovable, wide-eyed average Joe who will do almost ANYTHING to be famous. His antics land him in a mental institution where he meets a patient who thinks he's James Bond. The Bond guy, who is constantly high on psychiatric drugs, tells Bob if he helps him escape, he can make him famous by capturing Osama Bin Laden, who of course, is already dead. With the help of 2 other patients (a Dr. Phil wannabe and a angry compulsive eater), they all successfully escape. Then the film surprises - - because it's not only funny (the scene where they visit a gun store is classic comedy), but it also turns heart-warming. The film is not perfect and you have to buy into the premise that there's a huge government cover-up. And the film is too short. But in spite of being low budget with an unknown cast (I did recognize the "Office Space" guy), it has good acting and an interesting story. This alone makes Crazy Famous a film definitely worth watching.
Totally enjoyed the movie. Who can't get over David Neal Levine as the most believable Dr. Phil as a mental patient. The cast was awesome... Laughed all the way through the movie. Trying to be famous isn't easy as Bob and his band of friends find out. It has it's ups and downs. Sit back and enjoy!
