Avis à la une
This episode would have been 9 had it not been for the ridiculous wife storyline. Why is Taylor Sheridan writing her this way? The way the director had her sitting with her leg hiked up in that cattlemen club was just over the top, and not believable. And if she is suppose to just be a gold digger, why would she have left her billionaire husband? This character and the ditsy daughter are ruining what should be one of the best shows streaming right now.
While advancing the story, Taylor Sheridan manages to balance some serious and (in the case of widow Demi Moore) poignant moments with the comedy relief of Ali Larter.
Dale (James Jordan) nearly succumbs to deadly fumes when he's visiting an old abandoned well in a frightening segment. Ariana (Paulina Chavez) has to deal with horny and ornery customers when she goes to work as a neophyte bartender after breaking up (for the moment) with Cooper (Jacob Lofland). And Tommy's evil nemesis from the first season, Andy Garcia brings a wealth of charm and self-confidence to his villain role as a dirty investor in Cooper's fledgling oil empire.
Taylor made us wait for it, but it's great to see Demi Moore in Season Two earning her billing in the role of John Hamm's very sympathetic widow.
How Tommy negotiates a s*itload of problems promises to be a lot of fun this season.

This show went from snappy, quick humour and great satisfaction to soapy sludge. I am about to stop watching. Writers dropped the ball. Directors did not study season 1. It's as if I am wattching a half speed. Some of the story arcs are non sensible too. They drop off leaving you confused and pick up way too late. Get it together team!
Well let's see, in this episode we have another oil well incident, several well-written moments of Tommy taking the moral high road as he confronts oil executives (including this time an adversary that appeared in an earlier episode), and more ridiculous behavior from the wife and daughter. (I shudder to think about what kind of chaos and pointless distraction they might create at the upcoming funeral.) Ariana's part in this episode just feels like cliched filler. The series desperately needs a boost, maybe another character and/or for the story arc to take a new direction. It is all getting tiresome. Billy Bob continues to be the only reason for my sticking with the show. On the plus side, Demi Moore's Cami gets some quality time, in which she gives a strong performance, despite appearing in a needlessly long club scene involving Tommy and the Andy Garcia character, along with their wives--again more filler.
I enjoyed so many moments from the first season, and I just can't embrace season 2. If episode 3 had been on part with the first two episodes of season two, I probably would've just quit. The absurdity of the mom is off the charts, she's crossed into being a caricature. I'm gonna keep going but they're skating on thin ice here.

- AnecdotesThe hydrogen sulfide gas poisoning incident depicted in this episode actually happened in real life. In 1994 in the town of Seacliff, CA in Ventura County, three oil workers died after inhaling hydrogen sulfide gas while re-drilling an old oil well. The deadly gas escaped as they injected water down the pipe in an attempt to force oil out of the well. It is not clear if this scene was based on this incident but the similarities are striking.
