Avis à la une
I watched this movie on the Android box. Right off the bat I could see the quality of the feed was not great, and normally I won't watch a movie if that's the case, but as I watched the intro scene and credits, I was already drawn into the movie. The protagonist is an alcoholic and drug addict, well acted, believable. I especially liked that the storyline moved quickly, sparing us any long drawn out set-up of the impending apocalypse. The clan of characters who eventually ban together are a unique blend, no real duds in the group, and some fine acting. An excellent soundtrack accompanies several key scenes, and the writing invokes some powerful emotional scenes as our protagonist confronts his inner demons. The film is only 80 minutes long, it could have been much longer, but I like that the writer/director chose to narrow the parallel story lines in favour of a tighter script. Interesting ending, all in all a satisfying apocalyptic film, sans zombies or gruesome disease riddled mutants.
JACK'S APOCALYPSE is a well-made personal story with a great lead performance. If you're more into psychological horror and post-apocalyptic storylines that deal with the how the characters are feeling and dealing with their fate, kind of the The Walking Dead, then this film is for you. The themes and questions it deals with are similar, but they're dealt with deeply and considerately. Also Dave Maldonado is a really great actor that I hope to see more of. If you're looking for a unique take on post-apocalyptic drama, then you should see JACK'S APOCALYPSE.
The movie opens with Jack stumbling around the streets in a blizzard of cocaine and alcohol addiction. The people closest to him are barely alluded to, until his brother demands he meet him with some terrible news and a task to take on.
I enjoyed this. Jack is a sympathetic and well acted character, the pacing is nice, and the sense of space around the movie works for me.
There is a reasonable story arc and movement in the characterisation.
It hit a spot.
It wasn't the best movie I have ever seen, but it hit a spot.
At the end of Castaway where Tom Hanks is left with his beachball and the woman who drives away and he's there, kind of wondering, thats what this movie is like.

A man with three distinct lives and personalities, confronts the question of what is truth; and what is life. And what are these things worth? Watch this odd mindbender of a movie; and ask these questions of yourself. Seen on Tubi, the free streaming site.
Enjoyable post-apocalyptic and tale of redemption merge, with an indie vibe. It's really not a "horror" film, but definitely 2 dramas happening at the same time - an outer apocalypse and an inner apocalypse. Seemed to capture a realistic feel in the struggle with addiction and its destruction on one's life. More cerebral than action for an end of the world flick. Some clever plot devices were refreshing. An enjoyable amount of metaphysics without being preachy. Nice cinematography and some interesting setting with some strong performances, and an enjoyable somewhat open ending that allows the viewers to think for themselves.
