Makes the Bates family look conventional....

I enjoyed this movie. It is a family character study about deeply troubled and mentally ill siblings, some of whom have dealt with childhood trauma. Three of the children (adult children) appear to have precognition, though only one of them seems to be aware of it and is able to use it to alter an event. Keener gives a superb performance as the mother. This family loves each other, although they each suffer internally with their own demons. This is a slow burn, but well worth a watch. All of the characters speak softly, it was a strain for me to hear sometimes. There is no yelling and only one violent scene. It is an emotional study of a loving family who just doesn't feel it "belongs here", meaning in this world.

Mystery, Drama with a slice of Sci-Fy future Visions

A likeable plot with twist, although some were eye rolling. I think all the actors did well in the portrayal of their respective characters. I mean I couldn't stand the love interest chosen for Lily to bequeath. Her virginity to. His character was a slimy weasel of the worst kind, and he did a great job in his characterization of Davey.

The one twist worked to the point that it took a minute to wonder why a certain event took place. So kudos for some good script writing and direction for a change. Too many of these films depend on the tried and true bland and predictable formats that do more towards the negative aspects of the movie, and do not inspire a positive experience.

So other than the awkward teen romance that was as predictable as it was gross as for the choice of available dudes for the fair young lady.

portrait of a state of soul

a film about family and love and illness. and ways to escape from yourself. at the first sight - a film about anything. no story, only a lot of fragments, suggestions, sketches. but enough for discover not a case of dysfunctional family but near everyday reality. a special film for the aura of one of last roles of Anton Yelchin. for the admirable performance of Catherine Keener. for music, atmosphere and for a simple, slow grow up of events and words and feelings like flowers in a ruined garden.portrait of a state of soul, it seems be a song in images.

If you like David Lynch......

If you like anything that David Lynch has made, especially season 3 of Twin Peaks, then you will be able to tolerate this movie. I say tolerate becuase I notice 2 of the 4 reviews are 0 stars given, the lowest score. Their complaints were mostly pacing issues. This movie is a series of events. Lets says there is 30 individual scenes in this movie, 3 of the scenes will be the same event, broken up over the entire movie. Thats the best way I can describe it. I know I am not telling you about the movie, really, but I cannot. It wouldn't help you decide. if it was any good. You know it's about a family already. That's exactly what it is, a movie about a family over maybe a few days or so. Time doesn't seem to pass by. It's extremely disjointed. You are probably thinking that I am criticizing this movie, but I am not. This brings me back to my original Statement. If you like, or probably really have to LOVE Lynch's work, then you will enjoy this movie. If you hated everything that Lynch has ever done, or think its so-so, then do not bother with this movie, it will just frustrate you, becuase you probably don't have very good patience for slow films that don't really seem to go anywhere.

Must see movie about Bipolar Disorder

I enjoyed this movie. It is a family character study about deeply troubled and mentally ill siblings, some of whom have dealt with childhood trauma. The shadow of mentall illness weights heavy as issues large. This movie actually understand mental illness and bipolar disorder and it shows mental illness in a realistic way. The human mind doesn´t fit psychiatric definitions and this movie brings out the complexity of troubeled lives.

The acting was perfect!

It was one of Anton Yelchin's best acting performances. Other actresses were also very successful. Although some parts of the movie confused me, I could generally understand. The soundtrack was very nice. Although it has an average story in general, the success of acting and the emotional empathy made me love the movie.

Only clicked cause Keener.

This movie is a proper movie. I found it by accident. Only clicked cause Keener. One does not find these movies, cause movie sites ignore that kind of interesting work. Wonderful piece. I am not gonna spoil it, just, the theme sounds heavy and I was afraid that I can not handle it. But while on-point, in so many ways, incredible accurate how rape has been portrait in here. This is my first IMDB review, cause I was angry at the score. I give a ten cause I don't know what could have been better. Dialogs super strong.

It's all much more real than you'd like to believe.

Excellent movie. "Fictional" story, that tackles topics all too real. The ironic part is how true the entire film is, in actuality. It's all real. There is greatness and unbelievable power within us all. The problem is that we can't hold onto our happy thoughts.
