‘Legacies’: Peyton Alex Smith Joins The CW Drama As Series Regular
Former The Quad star Peyton Alex Smith has signed on a series regular in the CW’s upcoming Legacies, the next chapter of The Vampire Diaries/The Originals trilogy from executive producer/writer Julie Plec.

Legacies tells the story of the next generation of supernatural beings at The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, where 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson, played by Danielle Rose Russell, and others come of age in the most unconventional way possible, nurtured to be their best selves…in spite of their worst impulses…all under the watchful eye of headmaster Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis).

Smith plays Rafael, a dangerously charismatic and newly-triggered werewolf. With a combination of a pure and loyal heart mixed with a lifetime of abuse and anger, Rafael wants to be a good person but lives in a constant struggle with the emotional demons that have plagued him through a difficult childhood.

‘What Carter Lost’ Review: Texas High School Football Doc is the Story That ‘Friday Night Lights’ Was Missing
Connie Britton, Kyle Chandler, Timothy F. Crowley, Blue Deckert, Brad Leland, Jesse Plemons, Louanne Stephens, Minka Kelly, Zach Gilford, Adrianne Palicki, Aimee Teegarden, Taylor Kitsch, Kate Krause, Gaius Charles, Scott Porter, Kate Melton, Derek Phillips, Stacey Oristano, Omaka Omegah, and Sarah Kate Allsup in Friday Night Lights (2006)
One of the greatest gifts any documentary can get is direct contribution from everyone involved in the story on display. “What Carter Lost,” the latest film in the Espn “30 for 30” docuseries, gives a thorough look at a tumultuous few months in late 1989, as one Dallas high school ascended to the heights of Texas football – before some players lost nearly everything.

For casual or non-football fans, director Adam Hootnick sets up the on-field supremacy of the Carter High School squad. Lauded here by at least one NFL hall-of-famer as the greatest high school football team in history, this group of Carter students came to wider cultural attention when their 1989 playoff run collided head-on with Odessa Permian, the team profiled in “Friday Night Lights,” Buzz Bissinger’s book that begat the film and later TV series.

Q&A: Composer Giona Ostinelli on Collaborating with Mickey Keating for Carnage Park, Darling & More
Hitting the big screen in New York City and VOD platforms on July 1st before making its Los Angeles theatrical debut on July 8th from IFC Midnight, Mickey Keating’s Carnage Park marks his fourth feature film collaboration with acclaimed composer Giona Ostinelli. For our latest Q&A feature, we caught up with Ostinelli to discuss working with Keating, using a wide range of instruments and items (including a nail gun) to create unease in Carnage Park, and much more.

Giona, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us. Your score for Carnage Park marks your fourth collaboration with director Mickey Keating. What first attracted you to Keating’s work?

Matt Damon in Seul sur Mars (2015)
Can 'The Martian' Hold Off 'Burnt' and 'Scouts' at the Box Office?
Matt Damon in Seul sur Mars (2015)
Last weekend, 20th Century Fox's blockbuster The Martian returned to take the top spot at the box office, fending off four new releases, which all underperformed. This gave the thriller its third win in four weeks. On Friday, the sci-fi drama faces off against three more new movies, The Weinstein Company's Burnt, Warner Bros.' Our Brand Is Crisis and Paramount's Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, just one day before Halloween. Like last weekend's crop of new releases, the projections at BoxOffice.com reveal these latest titles will all underperform as well, with The Martian likely taking the top spot once again.

The Martian has earned $166.1 million since its release on October 2, debuting at $54.3 million. While that isn't an astronomical opening weekend by any means, it continues to post minimal decreases in each frame, dropping just 31.9% in its second weekend, 42.4% in its third frame (where it took second place to Goosebumps) and 26.1% last weekend.
