A solid spy thriller with outstanding performances. I thoroughly enjoyed the stunning Spanish countryside and iconic landmarks, which sparked a deeper exploration into the history and significance of Huelva and southern Spain. The series also prompted me to reflect on Spain's 'neutrality' during WWII. I particularly appreciated the historical narration at the start of each episode, which provided valuable context on global events as Spain gradually became involved in the war.
While the series was engaging, I do feel that it could benefit from deeper character development, particularly in exploring the perspectives of ordinary citizens-how they felt, whether they supported or opposed the conflicting causes. Unfortunately, the romantic storylines, especially the one between Lucia and Peter, didn't resonate. The chemistry between Lucia and her fiancé also felt forced and unconvincing.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I thoroughly enjoyed the series and am eagerly anticipating Season 2!
Please keep in mind there are two entries in IMDB for this mini-series, this one and one with the Spanish title, Operación Barrio Inglés.
