King of Drag

As most people would agree, this show was needed for a long time. Drag Kings haven't gotten but deserve the same amount of recognition that their drag queen counterparts receive. Kings are often too excluded from queer spaces and a platform like this will hopefully introduce this form of art to a new demographic of people. King of Drag introduces a crafty bunch of artists with unique perspectives on gender identity and performance. They showcase their creativity through various challenges with there being a top and bottom of each week. While still being a reality tv competition series, the show manages to uplift mainly the art rather than drama and crafted storylines, making this show a pure celebration of queer joy. My only two criticisms of the show so far are that it needs a bigger budget, and needs to realize it doesn't have to just be the drag king equivalent of RuPaul's Drag Race. Of course there's going to be inspiration because Drag Race is the first of its kind, but I would like to see the show come more into its own rather than making versions of things Drag Race already has. Doing that will allow for the show to craft out its own unique lane. Overall though, I have a positive opinion of the show and am hoping to see more of it in the near future. I'm so glad to have seen this first cast really shine through and pave the way for future contestants of the franchise.
