Time flies when you’re not grounded by family dinners and moral monologues, huh? It’s been nearly 30 years since 7th Heaven first graced our boxy TVs, teaching us lessons one Bible verse at a time. Back then, the Camden crew was tighter than a lid on a pickle jar. We’re talkin’ about the days when buffering meant go make a sandwich, and moral lessons were delivered weekly with a side of family drama.
But life, as they say, isn’t always sunshine and sermonettes. Now here we are, nearly three decades deep since that 1996 premiere, and the cast has long since flown the coop. All doing their own thing, some soaring, some sailing, some just staying under the radar like that one friend who never posts on Instagram.
Life has thrown the cast into very different storms, and let us tell you, some umbrellas held better than others.

The Iron Claw, directed by Sean Durkin and starring Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, and Lily James, is a devastating exploration of masculinity and strength through the lens of the famous Von Erich wrestling family. If you grew up with the first iteration of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, one of the elephants in the room as you got older was the casting of the Black and Yellow Ranger. On the hit Fox kids TV series, released in Aug. 1993, Walter Emanuel Jones, who is African American, portrayed the first Black Ranger, and Thuy Trang, who was Vietnamese, portrayed the first Yellow Ranger. It's hard to believe that the series was unaware of the obvious racial stereotypes, but according to the show's head writer, it wasn't something that crossed their minds.

When it comes to historical casting of certain roles on TV and in movies, there are always moments that are later reflected on as being done insensitively, or sometimes just plain wrong. Recently, Tony Oliver, head writer on the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series, shared his belief that the casting of a Black actor and an Asian actress as the Black and Yellow Power Rangers, respectively, was something that was “such a mistake.” However, the comments, made as part of Investigation Discovery’s Hollywood Demons series, have gained a response from Walter Emanuel Jones, the original Black Ranger in the series.
While there has been a lot of agreement with Oliver that the casting was colorblind and a little ignorant, that is not how Jones sees it at all, and he is much more inclined to remember the positive impact his character had as one of the first Black...

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted on Fox Kids in August 1993 and became an immediate hit. Even now, it's still one of the most beloved eras of the long-running franchise. However, given when it first aired, the series was, at times, a little culturally insensitive.
For example, a Black actor, Walter Emanuel Jones, was cast as the Black Ranger and an Asian actress, Thuy Trang, was chosen to portray the Yellow Ranger. That's been discussed a lot over the years, with those who worked on the series at the time facing a lot of criticism.
Talking on the "Dark Side of the Power Rangers" episode of Discovery's Hollywood Demons, former Power Rangers showrunner Tony Oliver said, "None of us are thinking stereotypes." He explained that was how the series got to air and ran for two seasons with "the Black character the Black Ranger and the Asian character the Yellow Ranger.

Tony Oliver, head writer of the good old Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, is admitting that it was a mistake to cast a Black actor as the Black Ranger(Walter Emanuel Jones) and Thuy Trang, an Asian actor, as the Yellow Ranger. “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” head writer Tony Oliver admits in the new Investigation Discovery series “Hollywood Demons” that it was a “mistake” to cast a Black actor to play the Black Ranger and an Asian actor to play the Yellow Ranger (via Entertainment Weekly). The series kicked off in August 1993 on Fox Kids with Walter Emanuel Jones as Zack Taylor (the first Black Ranger) and Thuy Trang as Trini Kwan (the first Yellow Ranger).
Oliver says in the documentary that “none of us [were] thinking stereotypes” when these casting decisions were originally made, which is why the show ran for two seasons with “the Black character the Black Ranger and the Asian character the Yellow Ranger.” It wasn’t until “my assistant pointed it out in a meeting one day” that Oliver realized these castings were upholding stereotypes. Oliver added: “It was such a mistake.”

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers head writer Tony Oliver regrets what he now views as racially insensitive casting for his Black and Asian leads, who played the Black and Yellow Power Rangers, respectively, in the kids’ TV show.
Oliver reflected on the series in Investigation Discovery’s newest episode of Hollywood Demons, per Entertainment Weekly, titled “Dark Side of the Power Rangers.” At the time, he said in the docuseries, “none of us are thinking stereotypes.”
First premiering on Fox Kids in 1993, the superhero series saw Walter Emanuel Jones originate the character of Zack Taylor, the Black Power Ranger, and Thuy Trang play the character of Trini Kwan, the first Yellow Power Ranger. As described by Oliver, the former “seemed to have the swagger of the group” while the latter was characterized as “the peaceful one, who tends to be the conscience of the group.” The duo remained on the show...

In the third episode of its new docuseries Hollywood Demons, which premieres Monday from 9-11pm Et on ID and streams on Max, a writer and actor from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993-’95) recalled the “abusive” on-set conditions that led to one background actor suffering heat stroke while filming the pilot.
“When we’re shooting the pilot, we’re out in the desert — it’s got to be 110 degrees — and someone has heat stroke,” said Audri Dubois, who originally played yellow ranger Trini, in an Entertainment Weekly preview. “It was one of the bad guys in a wet suit with a rubber mask over their head with pinholes for the eyes and mouth. Investigation Discovery announced the six-part docuseries Hollywood Demons, in which each two-hour episode will cover a different horror story from the industry. The first episode details the downfall of actor Stephen Collins.
Best known for playing Rev. Eric Camden on 7th Heaven for 11 years, Collins was first investigated for sexually abusing underage girls in 2012. The investigation followed a leaked video of Collins admitting the crimes to his therapist. The footage, recorded unbeknownst to Collins or his therapist, was allegedly taken by Collins’ estranged wife, Faye Grant.
In 2014, Collins returned to headlines with a long statement to People that confessed to having had inappropriate sexual conduct with three minors between the years of 1973 and 1994.
Following this 2014 statement, Collins gave an interview to ABC News’ 20/20 where he adamantly insisted that he was, “absolutely not attracted, physically or sexually attracted to children.”
