As it sank in over the last year that the most recent British Gladiators reboot was not only a hit but massively popular with families and particularly kids, some genius at the Beeb thought up a kid-aimed spin-off showing the Gladiators goofing around backstage at Sheffield arena and pranking one another. It works really well, each short episode built around a prank played on a single Gladiator and infused with party games and silly asides. The likeable Nitro is a great host but some of the pranks feel so superfluous, unbelievable or (on the rare occasion) a little mean-spirited that you wonder if just the arena party games alone would have made a decent enough short show on their own, despite the prank trend.
