This Is Exactly the Kind of Show Indian TV Needs Right Now

This show is a breath of fresh air. It's one of those shows that makes you laugh, think, and, let's be real, also cringe at some of the craziness going on. But in the best way possible.

Now, they do mention that this show is a remake of 'Jane The Virgin'. But this show's got its own unique swag.

What makes this show stand out is the crazy combination of humor, drama, and that unexpected mystery twist. Because this isn't just about Roohi and her accidental pregnancy. There's this whole mystery angle that unfolds around the main rom-com story. The show slowly reveals little hints about Roohi's past and why things went down the way they did.

Right from the time the film Makdee came out, I have had a belief that Shweta Basu Prasad has a potential to be a good actress with time and she proves it in this show with her subtle, cute and versatile acting. The support cast of Aashim and Abhay, Sonali Kulkarni and Javed Jaafrey make it really entertaining together weaving different angles of Roohi's life.

One of the things I really like about this show is the way it tackles real issues while keeping things light. It's not just about laughs, it gets into the complications of family expectations, societal norms, and the pressure to conform to what's "acceptable." But the show doesn't make it preachy, it does it all in this breezy, entertaining way that makes you laugh and think at the same time. It's like watching your own life unfold in a much crazier version, and you can't help but relate to it.

And let's talk about the vibe. The visuals are fresh and modern, the colors pop, the sets are fun, and the city feels alive. It's got that young, urban energy that really fits with the show's theme of breaking free from the traditional shackles. The whole thing feels fresh and feels like it was made for a younger, more open-minded audience.

But the real reason this show stands out is because it's breaking stereotypes and cute plot twists. This isn't just another predictable Indian TV show with over-the-top melodrama. It's a show that lets the characters be messy, real, and imperfect and that's what makes it relatable. And on top of that, it's not afraid to throw in a mystery that keeps you on your toes. It's like they're saying, "Yeah, we're gonna make you laugh, but we're also gonna keep you guessing." And honestly, it works.

    Showing fake feminism

For a just mistake of some doctor, how omkar loses his loyalty. He was loyal at last but how can he adopt someone child knowing that who was her ex boyfriend. I know that understandable is good for relationship but how can someone that understandable which was ended knows loss at all. The worst story line i ever watch.

Secondly its showing the society of which bad boys who are rich are the best and honest middleclass boy are always bad in relationship coz they cant understand fake relationship theories. If someone van be with her girlfriend knowing that she can't loose her virginity coz her grandmother told some pathetic line gullak , and after that what he was getting that a line that he can take girlfriend ex's child

For conclusion: I can proudly say omkar was not deserve by roohi.

Entertainment at it's peak, a well balanced drama.

This series is a perfect combination of comedy, romance, drama, itsy-bitsy thrill. It is such a well balanced storyline, it keeps you entertained but at the same time, also, doesn't weigh heavily on your mind. Just when one would think, things are getting too emotional, there would be a witty funny scene releasing the pressure and this is probably why one would want to continue watching it. No unnecessary cliff hangers is always a plus for me.

Each and every actor has portrayed their character beautifully. Needless to say, the narration at the background was very fun and very much required. I would love me some more seasons.

A pot-pourri of emotional highs and lows, drama and comedy

Roohi (Shweta Basu Prasad) is 28 years old and still a virgin owing to a promise she made to her grandmother (Apara Mehta). Subhadra's apprehension comes from the fact that her daughter and Roohi's mother, Paakhi (Sonali Kulkarni) had a teenage pregnancy, a fact that brought social shame in a conservative society. But having mended ties with her once estranged daughter, the three now live as a close knit family, bingeing on their favourite television soap together, every evening. Omkar (Abhay Mahajan) Roohi's boyfriend of three years is deeply committed to her and agrees to wait till they are officially hitched.

It's all pretty hunky-dory till Roohi's visit to gynae for a check-up leaves her pregnant! In a case of mistaken identity, she is artificially inseminated by the one of the last few 'good sperms' of a man who turns out to be her boss, Samar (Ashim Gulati). While Roohi's first reaction is to opt for an abortion, Samar who has survived testicular cancer and his wife Alisha (Amy Aela) try to convince her to be a surrogate mother, so they can adopt the baby, putting her in a dilemma. But that's not the only thing that adds chaos to her life.

While Omkar tries to be supportive of her decision to carry the baby to full term, Roohi finds herself getting increasingly attracted to Samar. To complicate matters further, Samar and Alisha seem to have hit a dead end in their marriage. And in the middle of all this ensuing drama, there is some more when Roohi finds out the identity of her father, who she never knew of. On the other hand, Omkar, an Intelligence Bureau detective unearths some uncomfortable truths about Samar's family, while investigating a drug smuggling case. As personalities Samar and Omkar are as different as chalk and cheese and almost at each other's throat most times.

Oops! Ab Kya? The official adaptation of the series, Jane The Virgin, pretty much follows the same trajectory, with a few changes. Overall, the narrative is a pot-pourri of emotional highs and lows, drama and comedy. While the series humours the common tropes of soap operas quite effectively, it goes over the top quite often. Also the over-explanation by the narrator robs the show of some of its charm. And there are some cringe moments too ('Gullak' as a metaphor for virginity being one) and the jokes don't always land. But that said, it does tear into societal norms and hypocrisies while sticking to its quirky, chaotic vibe.

The series has good, dependable performances by seasoned actors Apara Mehta, Jaaved Jaffrey and Sonali Kulkarni. Shweta Basu Prasad is impressive as Roohi, going through a gamut of emotions as her life goes from perfectly planned to topsy-turvy. Abhay Mahajan as the no-nonsense, committed Omkar and Ashim Gulati as the suave Samar hit the right notes.

Overall, Oops! Ab Kya? Is a mixed bag though it makes for a decent, breezy watch. And of course the cliff-hanger ending ensures there will be a season 2.

    Couldn't even complete it

A plot that in theory supports comedy is stretched to the limit with one dimensional characters.

It's apparently an adaptation of another series and they have done a terrible job. Apart from the fact that the actors (sorry to Stanislavski for even calling what these folks do as 'acting') are terrible, there aren't any laughs at all. I had to skip scenes to somehow get through two episodes.

Why is the Indian OTT landscape full of such unimaginative non original content? I think they have even stopped trying to give viewers anything new. Might as well watch 'saas bahu' dramas since this is basically a redressed version of one.
