The Patterson Cut is proof that Obi-Wan Kenobi was meant to be a movie!
I remember watching the original series and thinking of how much there was to love about Obi-Wan's story, but it really drags its feet with the pacing. The fact that this has been cut down to a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes and still has the story intact shows that a 5-hour miniseries is unnecessary. I mean, come on - Obi-Wan and Darth Vader having another lightsaber fight after all these years should have been on the big screen! That's such a big deal, but I know Disney played that card just to get a monthly subscription, and you can really feel that in the tv show. I don't even want to go into that rant of unnecessary Disney Plus shows!
Patterson did a tremendous job with this cut, although there are some awkward parts in the film where you can tell something is missing. Given what he had to work with, I feel like he did the best he could! He did so good at stripping the unnecessary parts of the show and letting the emotional aspects shine! At times, there was an overuse of flashbacks, but this version of Obi-Wan Kenobi is so much more enjoyable - especially Patterson's choice of music!
I highly recommend watching this over the Disney Plus show if you're looking to binge Star Wars. Miniseries and full-on seasons in between movies can kinda wear you out, so the Patterson Cut is a perfect choice for a viewing experience that feels better paced! For me this movie is cannon!
