Anecdotes

Apple Pie was inspired by five different films, plus one TV show. On a technical level, Manchester by the Sea (2016) and The Revenant (2015) inspired Apple Pie. The dynamic of Danielle and Paige was loosely inspired by the dynamic of Adora and Catra in She-Ra et les Princesses au Pouvoir (2018). The remaining three films inspired the themes within the short: 50/50 (2011), Ma vie pour la tienne (2009) and Nos étoiles contraires (2014).

The only difference is Danielle and Paige are not/were not ever seeking romance with each other.

This film was originally budgeted at £330 with a stretch goal of £550 - but it managed to hit £880 in its campaign! Given the 10% that the fundraiser platform asked for, the budget was originally £300, with a stretch of £500, but hit £800.
