Avis à la une
So first of all this is presented in a way to say "the predator " is not only a human being but in this case a victim - allow me to show you the ways . (That is what is presented in the documentary.) it is quite funny how we see the meetings (the confrontations) with carefully edited clips and get small carefully worded parts of these investigations but we don't get to see the actual chat logs. One of the biggest disgusting factors is the chat logs these people have with the "minors" . Everything they say gets so depraved and disgusting, but the agenda is clear in this film. Don't show the chats because that will sway people away from the bias of the documentary .
In the film we are presented with a take down with Chris Hanson where there was an 18 year old who went after a 15 year old . Now this isn't illegal in some states but in the state they were in it was. Now it shows the family and how it impacted the boys life . Tragic . But one thing they did NOT touch on is what the boy was charged with and how Take down with Chris Hanson operates . That show doesn't just talk to people and then get a meet up situation. No they said that they want to make sure enough crime is committed. So everyone picked up from their new show "is out to pay for sex from a minor" so this 18 year old knew this was a 15 year old selling her body for sex . So that's why the sexually charged conversation can happen and such. So this was not just a casual meet up and friendship growing and love interest. This was a man just looking to have underage sex and that's it. (Was this presented in the documentary) No. We didn't get all the facts because facts for this documentary is dangerous for the bias opinion .
I watch these shows they criticize and I've seen Chris Hanson really feel bad for the people he talks to and it's not until he re reads the chat logs to the predators face that the dangerous nature of the person comes back.
You can feel empathy for these people who are the predators but to just paint them in the light as victims of a show capitalizing off their crime being broadcasted and them losing everything because of it - isn't completely right. Why are people recording their take downs ? Well so they can find more take downs to get more bad people off the street. Same thing like Mr beast giving people free surgery for the blind so they can see or building wells in Africa and houses- if he didn't record them he would be able to do them.
Doing a service to help people and capture bad people can be entertainment but also trying to understand why people prey upon children is the point as well. The director behind the documentary had an agenda and it's pathetic that he is so biased and hides the facts from the audience . Only the audience members who have never seen or looked into the facts of the shows will be persuaded here.

This was a very compelling documentary. It did what I thought it would do, but it did it well. There was something morbidly fascinating about the show it's about (it seems like you're not allowed to type the full title on here) back in the day, and this does try to look at the whole phenomenon in a thought-provoking and nuanced way. I didn't want to say "objective" only because it lacked narration, since there are other ways to argue a point in a documentary, but still. This documentary also looks at how the show has motivated some people who want to keep it going, in spirit, in their own kinda troubling ways, which was news to me.
This is such a strange take on people who want to have sex with children. Look at all of the issues Nickelodeon had with grooming, this is the same company. Why would you side with people who want to hurt kids? Anyways this show stinks. The DA who killed himself is sad but he had already broken the law. He should have served his time. The show didn't force him to do anything, he made every choice.
I thought this was going to be a documentary about the making of to catch and predator, and the idea and input behind it. Maybe the first quarter of the doc covered that stuff- but the rest of it felt like sanctimonious bs. Is the documentary maker really trying to make us feel bad for sexual predators? That's what it seemed like to me and it made me very angry and uncomfortable.
I watched TCAP like most people who watched this documentary. I don't understand what the documentarian was trying to convey here. The impact of the stings? The legacy Chris Hanson left behind? Contrasting what Hanson does to those who emulate him? I don't feel like this was worth the time I spent watching it, nor did it leave me with any food for thought like a good doc should.
