10 Years After Release, Gundam’s Best Anime Series Is Coming Back in a Big Way
Image
When you think about stories led by giant robots (or mecha), there should be only one franchise that immediately comes to mind: Mobile Suit Gundam. The long-running anime series has doled out several spin-offs ever since it premiered back in the 70s. However, one of the best ones was a short-lived series that never received a follow-up — until this year, that is. In a surprise announcement, Bandai Namco unveiled a trailer for Gundam:Iron-Blooded Orphans Urdr-Hunt – Path of the Little Challenger. The movie explores the story of the series that kicked off in 2015.

Mobile Suit Gundam:Iron-Blooded Orphans touched on subjects that are not usually prominent in anime series. Set in a Martian colony, it centers around a group of kids and teenagers who band together to form their own army after resisting an oppressive system. The series used the Mars landscape to deal with extremely Earthly subjects such as slavery, child labor,...

While it can be quite difficult to figure out how to get tickets, which theater to go to and whether the movie has English subtitles, this article is here to help. We’ll even give you some tips on how to find special screenings of older anime films around Tokyo. Gundam's Newest Streaming Hit Gets Disappointing Update
Image
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX wrapped up its 12-episode run on June 24, 2025, but it wasn't necessarily the series finale that broke the hearts of its fans, but rather its goodbye message afterward.

Despite critical acclaim and commercial success, official statements from both director Kazuya Tsurumaki and Studio Khara president Hideaki Anno suggest that the ambitious new Gundam series won't be returning for a Season 2. The writing appeared to be on the wall when Tsurumaki posted a farewell message on the series' official X (formerly Twitter) account. "Thank you for watching GQuuuuX until the very end," the director wrote, thanking fans for their feedback and noting how their support helped the team "somehow make it to the final episode."

Medalist and Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Anime Sparkle in Collab Illustration
Image
Today, singer Kenshi Yonezu released his new single, featuring songs from both sports anime Medalist and this season's Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX . Bringing these two very different series together is the art of Medalist creator Tsurumaikada, who pens characters from both series for the single's official cover art. The one-of-a-kind artwork unites characters from both series as they face off against each other in a sparkling battle—but is it the glitter of the ice rink or the "kirakira" of Machu's Newtype powers? ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’ Is Here to Remind Us That No Modern Anime Can Replace Yoshiyuki Tomino as the Master of Mecha Anime
Image
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is the latest addition to the Gundam franchise, but it isn’t one to be taken lightly. It is the sixteenth installment, and not only looks promising, but plays the part. This is true for superb animation as well as the dream team behind the project.

We’ve got Hideaki Anno, the mastermind behind the famed cyberpunk mecha series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Then there’s Yoji Enokido, the famous screenwriter behind massive hits like Bungou Stray Dogs. But most of all, it reiterates Yoshiyuki Tomino’s brilliance in every aspect.

In the first episode itself, the series managed to gain traction through its themes. These resonated well with most mecha and cyberpunk enthusiasts and Gundam loyalists. It was a complete masterstroke that highlighted Tomino’s vision in every sense.

The New ‘Gundam’ Anime Can Pull Jujutsu Kaisen’s Most Cursed Move With Its New Ending Theme
Image
Yoshiyuki Tomino’s Mobile Suit Gundam franchise has finally made a return with Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, which started on April 8, 2025 (USA). The series is a new take on the entire military science fiction genre that includes mecha robots and thrilling adventures through the perspective of Amate Yuzuriha, the series protagonist.

The first episode of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX laid the groundwork for the rest of the series. Some new details and elements have been added to the narrative that still connects to the original Gundam themes. They perfectly set the tone for the series and what fans can expect, but there is one aspect of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX that draws a parallel with Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen anime.

It is the ending theme curse that attracted a lot of criticism for the Jujutsu Kaisen anime. In the second season, Jujutsu Kaisen’s ending theme, Specialz by King Gnu,...

The Sixteenth Installment of The Gundam Franchise Comes to Prime Video With ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’
Image
The second television series to be aired during Japan's Reiwa era, and the second in a row. ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’ brings us back to the Gundam franchise. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Bandai Namco Filmworks—previously known as Sunrise, the Gundam franchise has found a mirror-lined corridor into pop culture far beyond The Land of the Rising Sun. Shows like ‘Mobile Suit Gundam 00’ and ‘Mobile Suit Gundam Wing’ have shown huge successes worldwide, with the latter having become such a global phenomenon that it has often been seen outperforming veteran series like ‘Dragon Ball Z’ and ‘Sailor Moon’ in the Cartoon Network late-night television programming block “Toonami”. What started on April 7, 1979, with the eerily grounded release of ‘Mobile Suit Gundam’ introduced the “real robot” mecha anime subgenre, which unlike its predecessory brother the “super robot” subgenre leaned upon the reliance on implausible abilities and often fantastical powers, “real...

Handled by the official Gundam.info website, the new poll shows that Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury is currently the prevailing "first Gundam anime" for many fans. This was in a poll with over 9,000 votes, and it's the second such poll hosted by the website. Fans Should Manage Their Expectations for Hideaki Anno’s Gundam Film
Image
This review contains mild spoilers for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-. Proceed with caution.

In the wake of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury's success, it's safe to say that the Gundam franchise is stronger than ever. However, this is only really true for the premiere mecha anime franchise's Alternate Universes (Au). The original Universal Century (Uc), which chronicled the war between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon, has been stuck in limbo for the better part of the last 20 years. The Uc's new series and films only fill in the timeline's gaps, while not advancing the overall story forward.

But since the war ended both in-universe and in the real world, there's really nowhere else for the Uc to go. Thankfully, this stagnant status quo is about to change with the upcoming anime series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, which began with the compilation film...
