Really?

I cannot believe that this many people have never watched Survivor. #1 Fire (fire gives you safe water), #2 Shelter, off the ground, you need a roof, #3 Food...you don't always have to cook it. I am not one of those people. But if water is abundant, Fire, Shelter, Food. Your food can be worms, insects, reptiles, fish much of this you can eat raw. But if you have #1 Fire you don't need to worry about raw. Fire gives you warmth, safe water and safe food. Survivor has been on for like 24 years... These kinds of things should be common knowledge by now. I mean did they specifically choose people who had never watched it???

Good Show, terrible cast

The first episode with the 18 year old was hard to watch he was awful! The premise of the show is great but I think you have to vet these people better the dad was definitely enabling his son and it put a negative light on the show having them on it. The way he spoke to his parents and threatened them to push the button to extract was absolutely crazy and it really sucks that they were allowed to push the button and get him out especially since his mom made sure he had everything he needed in his crate and he still chose to speak to them the way he did and then hug them when they bring him back.

So Much To Dislike. But.

Thought I'd hate it. I thought it'd be so bad it wasn't worth commenting on. Because this is just so easy to hate.

The $250,000 prize is pathetic. Really? The Beast just gave a winner $10,000,000 come on guys.

Then there is...., well it's not exactly survival. This is not a survival show. It resembles more closely "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here" from the UK. Not one of these contestants could survive a night camping in a back garden. It's a study in human anthropology just to see how fast the human species could die off.

But. Seeing the dynamic between the different family and friends members and how they feel about their "champion" had me glued.

Because while the challenges to survive in the woods wouldn't tax a boomer more than a stiff walk it is incredible to see the crash that has taken place. These millennials and their relations are bone crushingly stupid.

The mismatch between what they think they can do. What their loved ones think they can do and reality is shocking. Not sure how good this will be after the stupidity shock wears off but let's see.

The premise is good, but...

How do they select the "survivalists" and their support crew in HQ? Either milk toast relatives in HQ, with a strong person in the field, or the opposite. The weak get rewarded and the strong get penalized? Completely backwards. To win this contest, there just needs to be a halfway decent person in the field with a duress word, and 2 strong field craft people that know what supplies to send, and don't pull that person without hearing the duress word or the medical team demanding it.

Start everyone off with a full steel canteen, knife and fire starter. If they can't start a fire before applying for the show, they run out of clean water and automatically get eliminated. Drinking untreated water can have long term effects on the organs, so eliminate that from the program. A person wise in wood craft with a good knife and fire starter can make a shelter, traps, and spears to kill animals or fish for protein. They'll know how to forage. Over half of these contestants would starve in a grocery store without a can opener.

Not too bad

The other show that came out in groups surviving in Alaska was better... These guys moreso just sit around and do nothing... Your in the wild so you need to be foraging, looking for food etc.. helps with supply drops but then it's not really survival with help.. but puts a tweak on it with the HQ etc. I would've thought they would have all gone and moved around and formed bonds with the other contestants which would help boost morale a bit more for them. Good thought for a reality show even though I hardly watch any (only ones like this are decent) but good effort to all those who participated in it.

This is not survival. This is camping.

The show is ridiculous. The people out in the woods have shelter, water, food, fire, tarps, hunting tools, numerous drops of other items. The families in headquarters act like this is very stressful on them because they have to sit there and watch their loved ones Not have everything they need. When they signed up for this show, they knew it was going to be "tough" but the drama in the headquarters is ridiculous. These people are out in the woods, many staff around, medics nearby, and supplies. Maybe they don't eat for a few days, but you can go a long time without food. This is a drama filled show with ridiculous people acting like they are going through excruciating pain and hunger. It's a joke. Another TV show by Fox that is absolutely a waste of time. Don't waste your time on this show.

Had me glued!

Finally a unique competition series! Definitely a fresh and fun series worth my time. Did not feel like a re-tread of anything I've seen to date. Loved the family involvement. Casting for all was bang on. Really liked the creative ways the family members participated and the action and reactions felt authentic throughout. Beautiful camera work and great character & plot twists I could not have predicted. Nice to watch a show that doesn't feed me fake stakes at every turn and over hype every action. This built nicely. Would love to see a season 2 but would raise the stakes by placing them in freezing temperatures / snow. Great idea for a series, very well done, looking forward to episode 2.

Fox Has Gone Too Far This Time.

The Fox Television Network has done some extremely unethical things to obtain high ratings for its programs, but this show takes the bialy. Extracted is a new low, even for Fox. It has contestants get their loved ones to risk their very lives in the wilderness all for a quarter of a million dollars. It shows how greed can kill and brake up families. I shudder to imagine what would happen if they offered a full million dollars. This is why I rate this horrible show a zero. It reminds me why I hate reality tv shows so much and why I never watch them. Sooner or later, one of the contestants will get killed trying to do one of those dangerous stunts.

A New Twist On The Survival Genre

In this competition show, twelve individuals try to survive in the woods. Periodically, there are opportunities to gain aids, like tarps, matches, or food. What sets this series apart is that each contestant has two relatives that stay in "headquarters", where they live and watch the proceedings. A contestant can only be extracted if their relatives order it.

At every turn, the relatives are under duress, having to make decisions that might affect the game's outcome. And the contestant who wins gets $250,000, so the stakes are high.

It should be noted that surviving does not make you a survivalist. This game is not like "Naked and Afraid", where one must survive off the land with no assistance. But surviving in "Extracted" is not easy. Many competitors do not make it to the end.

As in many other games, alliances are formed and people must confront their own values, deciding the "right" thing to do in difficult situations.

JOKE-Not a survival show, it's just BIG BROTHER

I decided to give this show a try, and at first, I thought I might enjoy it. However, by episode five, I realized it was just plain ridiculous. One of the most capable survivalists gets pulled out by his whining, emotional wife, despite seeming to do well-though it's hard to tell since they barely show any actual survival efforts. Instead, the focus is entirely on what's happening at HQ. What happens to all the leftover supply boxes? What about the axes and saws they were given? Why give a bow and arrow to people who have never even used one? There are so many frustratingly illogical decisions. I won't be watching another episode.

Horrible casting

It could have been a good show. Horrible casting with weak charactered individuals who would be hard pressed to survive in a fully stocked grocery store. Where did they find these people the Walmart return bin? It is pathetic and the staff should be fired. The interviews with familys in the HQ are full of false tears and contrived virtue signaling. False emotions are the norm and common sense is absent in all the cast. Devoid of any and all reality or entertainment. A group of drunken 4th graders could have delivered a better quality program. Stop doing drugs Fox it has obviously caused brain damage.

Great show

This is a great take on survival and competition. Much like Alone last one standing, this one kind of fuses a bit of a game into the survival situation - which us being fans of both things made this show very palatable. I enjoy the different twists that they are adding, and it is clear that they were still trying to figure out what works or doesnt work with regard to its impact on contestants. I would like to see this one continue for multiple seasons to see how they let it evolve with the production. I really like the concept though, and its become one of our weekly watch shows. Highly recommended!

Abby is more interested in flirting than her family member surviving

I can't stand any of the cast. You have the entitled teenager who quit immediately, the whiny wife that eliminated her husband even though he was winning, and the backstabbing female team just being hypocritical at every turn. But I think the most annoying for me was Abby, who didn't even care about Megan whenever she had the chance to flirt with Jake's team members. She comes off so desperate for them to like her, choosing to hang out with them when Jake's camera was down instead of watching Megan. It just makes the whole thing feel like high school, and she's the nerd that justifies dating the jocks who just use her to cheat on homework. Just pathetic and embarrassing for everyone involved. Plus, what is Jake doing on this show when he clearly has so much more experience outdoors than anyone else. They should have all been skilled or none of them. This is not a competition.

Trash Show

Bad reality TV. Good idea.

Not a survival show.

Not really a show with substance.

Compared to other shows in like genres, its not a very skill based competition. If you want a better option, try Castaway as its also fictious, but at least its entertaining.

A lot of dialogue and drama seems staged. A lot of interactions seem lead. Only watch if you intend to get the show cancelled.

Another post used this space to share an interesting statistic. Here's a funfact: Bamboo has a tensile strength of up to 28,000 pounds per square inch (PSI), which is higher than steel. Bamboo's tensile strength varies depending on the species, age, and location along the column.

It was tolerable until the finale where it become obvious the show is rigged

I've watched survival shows like Alone and Survivor that follow a similar premise to this series, where people go live out in the wild and battle the elements with the additional element of challenges to earn rewards. I would say that compared to Survivor the challenges the producers came up with were very lackluster and unimaginative. In terms of the survival element, it was clear that some of these people had no clue how to survive in the wild (which I guess is a selling point for the show, but in a show centered around survival in the wild you would expect contestants to have some basic skills here).

There's a bit too much drama in the HQ for my likings, one contestant was doing extremely well surviving in the wild but got extracted because his fiance had her feelings hurt by the other contestants. However, even ignoring all these shortcomings it was watchable until the abysmal finale which was rigged so that a certain contestant could win. This contestant was about to be medically extracted but then they suddenly got a "final challenge" the next day. Furthermore the crux of the final challenge was guessing a 5 letter password the families at HQ had set. This contestant just so happened to have a 5 letter nickname that they went by. This resulted in the contestant immediately guessing the password whereas the other 3 contestants probably guessed their passwords for another 30 minutes.

So this begs the question, did the producers decide to end the show early to let this contestant win as opposed to getting medically extracted the next day? If it was their plan all along to have this kind of ending then my issue is false advertising on the premise of the show. I was lead to believe this show would be similar to Alone where the deciding factor on who wins is who can survive the longest in the wild. If the premise is "you guys need to survive to day X" and then you'll compete in a final challenge then that should be made clear to the contestants.

Surviving to day X versus surviving until all your opponents quit require two completely different strategies. In seasons of Alone where the goal was to survive to day 100, all contestants started the show with this knowledge and could plan accordingly. If instead you're targeting a certain number of players until the final challenge then again make this clear to the players. If I'm an experienced survivalist I might not want to take my chances on a 1 in 4 crap shoot to win the game after going X days starving myself in the wild.

Greedy Lab Rats

Remember, everyone is in it for the money! So fairness does not matter. At anytime a contestant can be Extracted without any input. What does dovthe the longterm relationship with family members? A story of socialism where the weak get the freebies to help them and the strong get nothing. Its not survival its a game.. The attempts to make family and friends feel guilty for helping their contesant is pitiful. In nature, the stronest survive, not the ones getting life support!! Needs more coverage of the contestants, in the wild, and what they are going through Treating people like lab rats! Too much drama back at HQ.

Contrived and predictable

This is a sad show.

It is constantly engineered to ensure that the weakest players are elevated.

This is not a survivalist show, it is competition based on conniving.

When a situation arises where damage can be done to a player, the conversations preceding that situation telegraph exactly what will happen.

Their main issue is mixing unprepared weak players with plays who have an outdoors skill set. This forces the show to continuously compensate in favor of the weakest players so they will stay in the game.

Some aspects are interesting, but they are diminished by the fragile nature of the show.

I hung around for six shows, but they became progressively more predictable and boring.

Terrible concept.

The entire show depends on supply drops in which the show pits the families against each other in psychological warfare. I would have liked the show more if the families competed back at HQ in games or something. I also would be more interested in watching the survivors use any real survival skills, but for the most part they don't have any. There must be some restrictions because the only thing you see them do for food is fish. No one ever reinforces their shelter on camera despite them leaking in the rain. So we don't really get anything interesting from watching them survive. Instead the entire show's drama is toying with the emotions of the contestants and primarily their families. There's a ton of families arguing and whining at each other. The whole goal seems to be trying to get them to break down on camera. It's a terrible show. I started this season so I'll finish it, but I wouldn't watch another season at all.
