Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital

It's hard to find a good found footage movie. For every Grave Encounters (2011) and Hell House LLC (2015) out there, there's a myriad of absolute trash to wade through. Strange Frequencies - Taiwan Killer Hospital (2024) isn't a bad effort, the acting is fine, the dark, long abandoned hospital setting has a definite creep factor, and it goes some way to deliver an actual bit of backstory behind the hospital's dark past.

There isn't really anything new here, and the pacing is a bit off at times during its first act, but it does a pretty good job with what it serves up, and it's an entertaining enough 90 minutes, especially for found footage horror fans. Overall, it's not bad at all.

I really enjoyed it! It's a found footage so obviously I was going to watch it!!! It's well done, it hits in the right spot, it's got the good amount of jump scares and creepy frights, and who doesn't love a haunted abandoned hospital? Is it the best movie in the world? No. But is it a fun scary movie to watch on movie night? Absolutely!!!!

This is a Filipino remake of the South Korean horror film Gonjiam Haunted Asylum and as a fan of the original, I didn't expect much from this remake. However, it was surprisingly good! It stayed true to the original plot, but it didn't flesh out the story as well as the original. The characters were likeable and some were a little annoying, which is part and parcel for a horror movie. It's not nearly as bad as some of the reviews make it out to be, but it's not as good as Gonjiam. It's still worth the watch if you're a fan of found footage films or haunted house type films.

If this movie was released 10 years ago, it might be a good movie but now we need something new. This movie is basically a recycling ideas from Grave Encounters, Gonjiam and Incantation. Grave Encounters was quite fresh when it released then comes Gonjiam and Incantation which push further making found footage horror more intense but this movie did not introduce anything new nor fresh. If you've watched all those 3 movies mentioned, you'll be able to predict what will happen on the next scene.

I'm halfway to the end of the show and so far, I think it's super nice. I mean we all know that there will be jump scares. I feel like it's well done and I don't think it's predictable. I'm tense all the way from the beginning till where I am now. And what's interesting is the Filipinos's actors and actresses. I think they act quite well.
