Ben Kingsley in Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King (2014)

Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King

Hail to the King, baby

Trevor Slattery(Kingsley, loving every second of pretending to be a bad actor) is in prison after the events of Iron Man 3. Some people there are huge fans of his, and they try to protect him from the ones who... maybe just don't... *get* his work, you know? Maybe it's too sophisticated for them? He agrees to do a series of interviews, and finds that the man conducting them is a professional who takes great care in his work. Thing is, he's not actually a journalist at all.

This is featured on the Blu-ray of Thor: The Dark World (2013). It was added to Disney Plus not long before Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released, since The Mandarin is a major part of that. This short is essentially a course correction by the studio, after so many people were unhappy with the treatment of that character in his first appearance. It's filmed and edited well. It's funny and stops short of being self indulgent.

I recommend this to everyone who's going to watch the aforementioned Asian-led MCU film. 8/10.

Surprisingly good.

Drew Pearce is surprisingly good . I was thinking what will they do in this but when I watched it, it was quite nice and surprisingly good . It covers all the parts of Iron Man Trilogy . Now it all makes sense . And it's better than all other Marvel one-shot .

In starting a documentary film maker is shown as he is making a documentary on Trevor. Some humors scenes are really good . And in the end you can't imagine what comes and you'll get a little shock .

At the end there is a cliff hanger , which i can't really imagine that in which movie they will reveal it. Ending credits also contain some scenes as always in Marvel style . It follows the theme of Dr. No.

That's it folks , go and watch it !!

Marvel One-Shots Marathon 2019 #4

All Hail the King is the follow up and spin-off of Iron Man 3 with exceptional performance by Ben Kingsley.

This short escalated so many unimaginable and shockingly wonderful ways that nobody see it coming.

I hope MCU will bring back Sam Rockwell's Justin Hammer in future entries.

Hail the King!

I give it a deserving 9.5*

Ben Kingsley returns in this wonderful One-Shot, and he doesn't disappoint. The 'twist' in Iron Man 3 had the fandom divided, some people liking Trevor Slattery and the others hating him, but this One-Shot gives the answer to how the hate was misdirected after all. Before I go let me tell you this wasn't a work of appeasement, or Marvel tracking back their footsteps, though they tease it a little when Trevor says, "Once an actor plays a part for too long he becomes the character...", or something. On the contrary the One-Shot establishes the Ten-Rings connection from the first Iron Man and shows that there is yet more depth to uncover in Iron Man's own side story. TLDR: It's an awesome ride for MCU and Iron Man movie fans, though if you are just a regular movie goer, chances are that you won't get what all the fuss is about.

Kiss my rings

Loved every second of it! We got to know what happened to the fake mandarin and to Justin Hammer! While we have seen again after this the fake mandarin I hope we get to see Justin Hammer again in the future, maybe he could have escaped prison with the blip.

Ben "the King" Kingsley

You can never praise Ben Kingsley enough. But he has reversed the stupidity of this role as the director of Iron Man 3 envisioned, and put out a magnificent and hilarious character. And thank God, this One Shot seems to be taking The Mandarin in the proper direction. Fantastic.

Exactly What the One-Shots Should've Been

As the final official Marvel One-Shot, All Hail the King captures the quintessential idea of these shorts. Picking up after the actions of Iron Man 3, ex-Mandarin actor Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) finds himself locked in prison for his terrorist acts. Now a notorious criminal, Slattery develops a following and enjoys his time galavanting with the other inmates. Though he feels safe within this prison, a seemingly ordinary interview puts that to the test. Quick and humorous, but also meaningful, this is how the One-Shots should have felt. Kingsley is consistently enjoyable in the role of Slattery and his nuance elevates what could have been a nuisance of a character. All Hail the King stands as the MCU's best One-Shot by telling a fast, fun, and necessary story, which expands on the ever-growing mythos.

Absolute garbage

Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King

The final Marvel One-Shot, All Hail the King also has the notoriety of being the worst. It is an epilogue of sorts to Ben Kingsley's role as the drunk, drug addled actor, Trevor Slattery. He is now in prison, serving time as the mouthpiece of the Mandarin. The one shot is set up as a documentary on the actor's life, but turns out to be nothing more than a revenge plot concocted by the real Mandarin, unseen. Seeing Justin Hammer, suddenly gay, in prison with him, was kind of amusing however. Much more of this should have been explored, as I was never a fan of this fake Mandarin crap that the movie put forth. This short just wasn't any good, except it was nice to see another of Marvel's series of epilogues.

Pretty Good

The One-Shot is a good addition to the MCU. It gives further insight into the criminal underworld of the MCU as well as providing information on the whereabouts of multiple characters from Iron Man's past. It has a good amount of humor and action. There is not much more you could ask for from a short One-Shot. While I find the main character to be insufferable, that is essentially who his character is. As far as One-Shots go chronologically, Marvel is starting to get them right with longer shorts that actually provide a purpose, almost like a post-credit scene, and should be included in any comprehensive viewing of the MCU.

You took his name...and now he wants it back.

First off, let me just say, that anybody who at the very least disliked the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3, watch this right now. Not only does it remedy that, but this short is actually confirmed to be canon by Feige.

Let's start out with the star of this short, Kingsley's Trevor Slattery. I loved his performance in Iron Man 3 because as the "Mandarin" and as Slattery. He nailed both roles of harrowing villain and bumbling buffoon. And I'm glad he hasn't changed now that he's in Seagate Prison.

Thankfully, it is revealed that the Mandarin actually does exist as Killian took it from legend to make Slattery into him. Kingsley can actually play the real Mandarin too, because in Iron Man 3, Slattery said that Killian's men gave him plastic surgery, most likely to make him look like the rumored Mandarin, so that's good news.

I also loved the Justin Hammer cameo. Sam Rockwell is an underrated actor (watch Moon), and I like his character in Iron Man 2.

+ Mandarin lives!...and can still be played by Kingsley! + Kingsley's Slattery + Hammer cameo

Final Score: 9.3/10

Slatterys TV Pilot

I wanna watch the whole show of that TV Pilot Slattery did! One of the weaker One-Shots but still a funny watch because of slattery. Interesting Plot-twist as well at the end.

All hail the king

I enjoyed this short film, although it only went for about 6 minutes, it still showed a lot of attention to detail and that's what I really liked about it, they could of been lazy with the writing or the HD work but they weren't and that's why it was a great short film.

You come at the king, you best not Thewlis

Weirdly I saw this before I saw Iron Man 3 (I know, I know) but Kingsley is having a whale of a time portraying Slattery and that alone really makes this this pulpy little one-shot worth seeking out. He imbues his pompous actor character with such a strikingly clear David Thewlis energy that it makes you wonder if it's a tribute or an insult. I like the tying-up of the subplots and how it builds into Shang-Chi (and how you can watch these things in retrospect and know they pay off rather than worry they are leading to nothing). The smart 1970s aesthetic is sharp and the Sam Rockwell cameo is fun if lightly offensive. It's a satisfying little short, this. Marvel should have got into doing these instead of post-credits sequences like Pixar shorts.

Fun...

Predating Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, after the events of Iron Man 3, Trevor Slattery is an infamous icon. He is currently imprisoned in a high security prison. Fortunately, his newfound profile brought him fame and protection on the inside. Now, Slattery is giving a series of interviews to a documentary filmmaker, but not everything is quite as it seems.

I'm glad I didn't watch this one before watching Shang-Chi and the 10 Rings, because even though he appeared in Iron Man 3, I don't remember anymore, and it wouldn't make the slightest sense that cult... Lovely, creative and short, but justifies all his participation in both Iron Man and Shang-Chi...

Just Like the adeaqla Character. aka the nam in the evac.

Story: The actor retells his side to the story and it's not bad but knowing that this guy was a lunatic actor he became annoying.

Production: Very good. They put effort into this but after this, this goes nowhere. It was part of one of the worse mcu films so that's not saying much.

Main intelligence: 0. For the people who he and people like HIM fooled.

Highlight: The production that's about it. This fake king is not an intriguing character.

Should you watch this? No. It's not necessary.

Travor is Back

I really liked this One-shot. It's 10min long and we get to dive more into who Trevor is. I loved him from Iron Man three. He was so funny. Doing a whole mini on him was a great idea. It was funny. And it's nice to see what happened to him. There's also a hint to what could come.

It was cool too that they threw in the bad guy from Iron man 2 into this. You always kinda wonder what happened to the bad guys, and here you get a small glimpse of that.

It was well constructed and held my attention. Cleverly written and put together. No expenses spared. I wish they would bring Trevor back and do one of the movie with him.
