Xavier Durmont, a young, honest, newly elected MP, is tasked by a representative of the Court of Auditors to investigate a suspicious waste disposal site affair involving a minister. He becomes the target of slander orchestrated by the agency of a mysterious Armand. But Xavier Durmont has a temperament and intends to bring the truth to light, even if it means risking his life...

Like most of Jean-Pierre Mocky's works,a curate's egg ; a spoof on the political world where everybody's in it for dough ;young Xavier (played by late famous stand-up comic and actor Coluche's son ) seems obsolete :his chivalrous dispenser of justice character must not be taken seriously ;the final scenes ,with its celebration and people rejoicing look more like a farce than a moving triumph of a hero who dismisses political skulduggery ;some fine lines with the black porter and some good moments ,now and then , in the Don Quichottesque tribulations of a naive young politician.
