Many expectations...but unfulfilled

I start by saying that I love Mihai Bendeac and I consider him the best humor creator in Romania at the moment. I've seen all his plays directed or just acted and I didn't even know before seeing it that this film is actually a screen adaptation of the play "Krecinski's Wedding".

The film stands out for its costumes and image, one of the best, if not the best, Romanian film of recent years from this point of view.

But I think that MB was wrong considering that theater and film can be so much the same. You can't really make a film with so many absurd and unrealistic characters unless you make it for children. And this is not a movie for children. If during the theater play I laughed out loud at certain lines, well, it was quite quiet in the movie theater. Liviu Pintileasa, although he does his best, does not seem to be necessarily made for the main role in a comedy film, and Vlad Dragulin is used too little.

On top of all this, there are also some songs that don't really belong there. They simply give the impression that the director satisfied his own musical pleasures with them or... that the respective soloists had to be included in the film.

Dragulin stole the show

I want to start by saying that I am not a fan of comedies and I went to this movie without any expectations and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this movie.

The cinematography and sound are exceptional, as are the costumes, and the actors also do a wonderful job. Although I liked that very good actors were used in small roles such as Anca Dinicu because you need something like that to have a perfect film, I am still disappointed that Ilona Brezoianu did not have a bigger role because I think she would have be perfectly suited, the scene in which she appears is one of my favorites. Another thing that I didn't like was the role of Pintileasa, who gave me the feeling that he tried a technique that he doesn't master very well. I don't know if that's how the character was written or if he was just empty trying to play it, but I can say for sure that in my opinion it was a weak role, instead Vlad Dragulin completely stole the show and I really recommend you to see this movie 2 times, and the second time just keep your eyes on Dragulin regardless of what happens in the movie and you will definitely not regret it. He was exceptional in the role of Arsenie. As for Bendeac, I can say that he was very good in his usual quality as a great actor, and being the director of the film, I can understand why he was not the main actor. I also really liked the role of Lidoscika, which seemed to me a very difficult one full of extremely well portrayed facial expressions. I couldn't wait for the film to finish to check on my phone who is the actress who played this difficult role, if she is one with great experience or one less known who plays a big role. I also liked the actors who played the roles of her parents, both of them very good and it can be seen that they are actors with great experience.

Another thing that I didn't like besides that of the main actor is that the film has a direction of parody in certain moments which in my opinion was not necessary.

After all, it is a very good movie, you will definitely not get bored and don't forget my advice, if you afford, try to see it twice, the second time only with your eyes on Vlad Dragulin and you will actually see 2 different movies, one better than the other.

Cheap comedy

It's a great laugh. If you want a cheap comedy and a good laugh, this is your go to movie for a free night. The characters were delicious, well build, the story was funny, and I liked the world created. There were funny situations and it was funny to see the characters react. However, if you a critic of comedy, I won't suggest this movie because you wouldn't enjoy the dumb cinematography. The ending was stupid but this is what makes this movie enjoyable. It's stupidity makes it fun. I suggest watching it with friends, I bet you would have a good laugh. Characters 7/10, Story 5/10, Conflict 6/10.

The movie was below my expectations

I tried not to give a subjective rating given that the film is Romanian and Mihai Bendeac is a multitalented man. The movie was below my expectations. The lines, the jokes or the action were sometimes mixed inappropriately... it's like when I try to make a cake with all my favorite ingredients without taking into account that some of them are not compatible.

The logistical effort to make this film is to be appreciated, but I am convinced that it can be done even better; maybe Mihai Bendeac should call on a team of professionals to help him with the creative part and he should limit himself to making and acting in the film.

With a significantly better script than this combined with the Bendeac style, I think something more valuable could come out!

Finally a good Romanian Movie

After the past few years filled with horrific, cringe-worthy Romanian movies, I can say that the local movie industry has seen hope on the horizon with Casatoria. The movie has a good script, the picture is impeccable, and we finally have actors instead of influencers playing in films. It's truly a breath of fresh air. And it's nice to hear people laughing out loud in cinemas. What a blast!!

You can see that they invested in this movie. The locations, costumes, and music are closer to what we see in Hollywood movies. Anyway, I was truly surprised to see Bendeac on the big screen for the first time, and he did not disappoint.

An insult to Romanian cinematography

I kept watching this movie till the end just to see how low a story can go. Nothing to see at the ridiculous characters placed at the border of nowhere while the touch of local music and kitsch is beyond comprehension and taste. Producer and actor Mihai Bendeac seems to have a wrong understanding of cinematic arts when he projects his artistic vision on the screen and employs a blend of Romanian music celebrities just to make the film even less convincing. The only inspired move was to place the story a century ago, back the days when Romania was not yet touched by modern "values", yet the set was troubled by grotesque costumes and vulgar tattoos. A total kitsch-hock.

There is something here

A very good comedy. But since taste is subjective the only certainty I can offer is that it is not mediocre. A breath of fresh air for some, a speck of kryptonite for others, bringing originality to the silver screen for the first time in...what...30 years ? Kudos.

The gags remind me of old school parodies like Hot Shots, Naked Gun or Airplane. It's a social commentary on the current climate where snobs with more money than sense act as though class can be bough. Family friendly, absurdist fun with very decent cgi and stellar cinema.

Very keen on a sequel, I hope we'll see more of mr. Krecinski and his hapless entourage soon.

Grotesquely poor

I expected this film to be bad, as (relatively high-budget) Romanian comedies usually are lately, but it was an utter disappointment. It was the first time I ever felt the urge to leave my seat in the cinema. The script is lamentable, the jokes are grotesquely lame, the anachronistic setting fails to create anything other than sheer confusion, and the crude caricatures of the characters were painfully lacklustre. Especially since I had high expectations from Bendeac who gives off the impression of an erudite. Also, the covert shoutout to gambling companies are simply disgusting. Overall, it's an hodgepodge meant for cheap laughs and commercial success.

classical heartwarming film

Casatoria is that evergreen, universal and eternal type of comedy. That type of comedy I lough at, my parents laugh at, my kids laugh at and most probably their kids will do it too.

There's nothing fortuitous about this movie, and it shows that Bendeac really thought about every detail starting with the grotesque of the characters and finishing with decors and dialogues.

The story is very simple following 3 friends and their goofy, silly attempts to get rich.

The music is beautiful and rounds up the vibe of the movie. You will have a good time at the cinema if you forget your age and worries.

Very dissapointing!!

Although I like Mihai Bendeac and admire his work and talent, I was disappointed by this film, barely resisting until the end.

My expectations were probably too high, regarding Bendeac's ability to direct an original film with a very good script.

Mediocre jokes, the script was non-existent, there were elements that had no point (manele, telephones..), the characters were extremely caricatured, sometimes giving the impression that I was watching cartoons.

Even though I know the actors from the theater, and they are very talented, in this film their talent was masked by the interpretation of these crude characters.

Some viewers left the theater in the first 10-15 minutes.

The Best Romanian Movie

I have just seen the movie and it is the best Romanian movie I have seen so far.

The movie is very funny and actors are great , their experience and talent being by far visible.

It stands out for costumes and image and a very high quality script looking like a true movie, not some tik tok gags put together shot with the camera phone.

The hall was laughing non stop but without using vulgar and cheap language , which is something rather rare .

Very appropriate for this period as well , since it is like a mirror to the nowadays society and and you will be recognizing many typologies.

You should not be missing it!

Shallow Humor

The movie "Casatoria" directed by Mihai Bendeac received mixed reviews, but some critics highlighted specific weaknesses that worked against it. Here are a few negative aspects:

1. Forced and Predictable Script Many reviews pointed out that the storyline is underdeveloped and filled with clichés, making the plot unoriginal. The relationships between the characters feel artificial, and while the dialogues attempt to be funny, they often fail to deliver genuine laughs.

2. Shallow Humor Although Bendeac is known for his humor, in this movie, the jokes are often seen as exaggerated, vulgar, or out of place. Some moments were perceived as more awkward than comedic.

3. Poorly Developed Characters The main characters lacked depth, failing to evoke empathy from the audience. They often appear caricatured, with unclear motivations or growth throughout the film.

4. Incoherent Directing Mihai Bendeac's directing was criticized for lacking a unified vision. Some scenes seem improvised or randomly thrown together without a clear connection to the main plot.

5. Lack of Depth While the premise promised to tackle relevant themes like relationships, love, and compromise, the execution felt superficial. The film failed to combine comedy and emotion in a convincing way.

Critics concluded that, although the movie might entertain a specific audience segment, overall, "Casatoria" doesn't raise the bar for Romanian comedy and remains a mediocre production.

The best Romanian film

The film masterfully captures, with humor and subtle irony, the essence of complicated relationships, especially when money and social ambitions are involved. The story revolves around a marriage of convenience that, despite starting as a calculated arrangement, unveils unexpected emotions, family tensions, and hilarious situations that keep the audience engaged. The natural dialogues and witty lines are the film's strong points, reminiscent of the authenticity specific to high-quality Romanian comedies. The actors add an extra layer of charm, with each performance perfectly balanced-whether portraying charismatic characters or caricaturing certain social stereotypes.

absolute garbage

The plot and the punchlines are predictable, everything is so cliché, the characters lack depth and they could easily be considered fillers, many unnecessary scenes and the action unfolds too quickly. It was a pain to watch. A very very very poorly written and stupid movie. I'm sorry for the great actors that played in this mess, it didn't do them any justice.

They made Anca Dinicu play a scene in which her lines where taken out of a TIKTOK video. How lame is that?

I wasn't a fan of Bendeac to begin with but this was incredibly disappointing.

This movie was a complete waste of my time. Don't watch it!

Based on Krechinsky's weeding by Aleksandr Sukhovo-Kobylin

First of all, I feel bad for the people who comment with "bad movie" and so on. But, of course, you are all movies critics. We saw you every year on Oscars. You are experts. The funny think that no one mention that movie is based on a theatre opera called "Krechinsky's Weeding" by Aleksandr Sukhovo-Kobylin. But for people who don't know how a theatre looks like is hard to understand.

Please go to theatre firstly or read the book and after that you can comment about this movie. Otherwise you will think that the plot and the idea are ugly.

The movie is a good comedy for the people who want to laugh more than to just criticise the actors.

A disgrace !

Save yourself and your precious time from this failure ! There is no humour in this movie, a failure from start to finish! The actors were poor, their acting was poor, the plot was poor and predictable even for a 7 years old, although I don't recommend it to children:)) Everything's looking so boring! Seems like it's trying to imitate old american comedies from the 90's but ohhh...such a big difference here. I know Mr Bendeac from the TV Shows in Romania and I love his characters from those TV-Shows but here we suppose to lift up a bit the level of his brilliance...Disappointed,although I still respect him ! I think 2 stars, maximum 3 would be enough! Don't make a sequel, please ! 🙏 I am so happy I watched it on Netfix and saved my money ! 🤣

A Rare Gem in Romanian Cinema

Even from the trailer, Casatoria stands out as a meticulously crafted film. It's rare to see such attention to detail in Romanian cinema.

The film creates an atmospheric universe, blending subtle elements of "magic" with a visually pleasing aesthetic. Every scene seems carefully designed to draw the viewer into its world, all while maintaining the viewer closely interested in the unfolding of the story.

And the story unfolds in a way that feels both timeless and fresh, offering a visual and emotional treat for the audience.

It's rare for a Romanian film to achieve such a harmonious combination of story, dialogue, and artistic direction, making it a standout in contemporary cinema. One could say it's reminiscent of Nunta Muta by Horatiu Malaele.

It was an absolute pleasure to experience a Romanian film crafted with such care and creativity. It's also good as a comedy but what stood out for me was the artistry.

So Congratulations to everyone involved in producing Casatoria, as this is not just a comedy or just a movie, it's a testament to what Romanian filmmakers can achieve when passion and artistry meet.

I hope we will see more movies like this in the future. Maybe even a series with the same actors, as they did an amazing job.

It's not bad, it soooo bad

This movie it's so bad that I had to turned it off after 5 minutes into it.

It felt like Cardi B directed Pulp Fiction.

It felt like Niki Minaj directed te Irish Man.

Or like Dj Khaled directed Citizen Cane.

Or even worse, like Lil Wayne directed Pan's Labyrint.

Very dumb jokes, very bad music, poorly written dialogue.

I mean, when a movies is so bad that you have to turn it off in the first 10 minutes, for me that was 5 minutes, but anyway, you just know that the rest of it will be bad.

Lots of people told me that they regretted paying to see it in theater, but I don't think it was that bad.

One of the best

"Casatoria" is a delightful comedy that delivers fresh humor and modern-day wit, making it a highly entertaining watch. From the very beginning, the film captivates with its clever dialogue, fast-paced storytelling, and well-timed comedic moments that feel both relevant and engaging.

One of the movie's strongest points is its humor. The jokes are not only well-crafted but also infused with a contemporary touch, making them relatable for today's audience. The characters are lively and charismatic, adding to the film's charm and ensuring that every scene has an energetic flow. The chemistry between the actors is natural, which enhances the authenticity of the comedic situations and makes them even more enjoyable.

Visually, the film stands out with its high-quality production. The cinematography, lighting, and overall aesthetics are polished, contributing to an immersive experience. Despite its relatively short runtime, the film manages to deliver a satisfying and well-rounded story. In fact, its brevity can be seen as a strength rather than a drawback, as it keeps the plot engaging without unnecessary filler.

Overall, casatoria is a well-executed comedy that balances humor and modern storytelling with great performances and high production quality. It's a film that will leave you laughing and entertained, proving that sometimes, less is more when done right.

When Professional Talent Is Wasted

I'm not talking about the actors' talent. I'm referring to the camera operator and the director of photography, who created truly exceptional shots in a film that I consider mediocre.

The film aims to be a parody, blending different eras, but it fails due to its forced language and weak acting. I know Romania and the decline of its educational institutions, and this lack of culture is reflected in the film - through its dialogue, music, and behavior.

Yes, it is a parody, but a poorly executed one, with lines that try to sound sophisticated at times but are rather delivered than truly acted. A film that wants to be a comedy but, in reality, mirrors the cultural decline of the country that produced it.

Great acting, great costumes, easy to follow story

Loved the acting, the storyline and especially the make-up, costumes, decors.

The movie is center around Temistocle Krecinski which is a "rich" poor man, with a gambling problem. When he gets in trouble and cannot gamble due to his tremendous debt, he comes up with the idea to marry Lidocika a strange looking girl but with a very wealthy father. And from here on he uses his charm and the help of his friends to convince Lidocika and her family that his love for her is sincere.

I read some reviews that characters are too much, well it is after all a comedy movie. Remember "Stan & Bran" , you wouldn't call them ridiculous, would you?

We went at the cinema to have fun and we do did. And everyone in the room did as well.

I hope Mihai will come back with more and more movies like this one 👏🏻!

A romanian polenta

It got me angry in the first ten minutes of viewing. Filled with gypsy references, cheap joke that make a mockery of the original text. The music is the worst part of this so called "film". It's just a shame that the music distroyed the production value. 15 minutes in and I just stopped this garbage.

If it weren't for all the manele references I might have watched the whole thing.

I don't understand why Bendeac complains about the lack of culture in România, when with this movie he obviously promotes the grotesque subculture of manele, ads people like Serghei Mizil in the movie that has nothing to do with acting.

It is what it is and it is very bad.

Thank You For This Excellent Film

Sorry for English viewers, but this film requires deep Romanian background to get it completely right.

After the initial getting into this fantasy setup, I started admiring the costumes and the overall ambiance. Dialogues were deliciously funny and only a couple of time did I anticipate the next sequence. But hey! This is yet another social fresco about the cheap upstarts, so how one could pretend not to know how this type of thing is being put together generally. And here we have a delightful masterpiece!

The main character, Liviu Pintileasa, manages to keep the action on, maintaining the rhythm and managing to somehow stay convincing when he should be only laughing himself.

It's been some time since I didn't enjoy a good Romanian-made film, so "thank you Mihai Bendeac for this film!"

Absolut garbage

"Casatoria" is a cinematic disaster. The script is nonexistent, the actors deliver painfully bad performances, and the directing feels completely uninspired. Mihai Bendeac overacts in every scene, while the rest of the cast seems like they are reading their lines for the first time. The humor is forced and unfunny, and visually, the film looks cheap and poorly executed. There is no depth, no real story, and no reason to watch. It feels like nobody reviewed the movie before its release. A complete waste of time and effort, offering nothing of value to the audience. Every scene drags on, making it unbearable to sit through.

successful cinematic experience.

As a viewer, I particularly appreciated Bendeac's distinctive humor, filled with witty lines and absurd situations that highlight the ridiculousness of human relationships and the concept of marriage as a social "arrangement." The actors deliver strong performances, each adding authenticity to their eccentric characters. The carefully crafted sets and costumes create an immersive atmosphere that draws you into the story.

Beyound the comedy, the film carries a dose of cynicism. It mocks the superficiality and hidden agendas that sometimes underpin marriages, as well as the fear of commitment. The ending, without giving away any spoilers, leaves room for interpretation and reflection on the themes addressed.
