Boring movie

After watching the trailer, I had high expectations. But it turned out so boring. Some actions were good but otherwise didn't really like the plot. The lead actor, has a soft innocent type face, so he was perfect for a slow healing drama like Summer Strike. But here, for such a role, he was not the best fit IMO. The movie was too slow and lacked good direction.

They have transformed a beautiful film action drama into a film for teenagers in love

They have transformed a beautiful film action drama into a film for teenagers in love, the start of a bad part of the wrong music, acting at all engaging, dialogues for teenagers, I would have accepted everything but not the love story that is truly embarrassing, but you can make a film action film in a romantic film, clearly it is a low budget film that does not focus on the chips that is truly low -level and not even on the dialogue that is not even on the dialogue that They too are devoid of depth and thickness, if it were not for this story of love that clearly someone will surely like the film would be a disaster, everything would have expected from I Koreani to not a story of love! Truly disappointing.

A waste of time

Although we were anticipating to see it , the movie was a total disappointment. I could not find any purpose in the plot. The scenes were unrelatable. The extremely poor scenario destroyed everything else in the movie. I feel sorry for all the actors really, who actually did their best, in my honest opinion.

Such potential but alas it is wasted.

The elite assassin world established in Kill Boksoon returns, but the spin-off film, Mantis (2025), is a bewildering exercise in wasted emotional opportunity. While the premise is rich-a returning assassin, a fierce rival (J), and a looming mentor (Dok Go)-the entire production collapses under the weight of its own superficiality, leaving the talented cast to drown in a script that refuses to give them anything of substance.

The script reduces complex, lethal killers to one-dimensional figures. The promised "complex feelings" between Mantis and J never materialize beyond frustrated glances and forced tension.

Instead of authentic conflict, we get performances that oscillate between blank stares and visible overcompensation to fill the emotional void left by the writing.

Mantis delivers in parts on the slick action, but forgets the soul. It's a loud, glossy action film where all the stakes feel imaginary, resulting in a hollow experience where the actors' best efforts are visibly and unfortunately wasted.

Un-eager insect

One of the worst movies to ever hit the screen. I have no idea what is going on in this movie and I am halfway through. So many plot holes, so many disjointed scenes, so many ridiculous narratives, that i am surprisingly astounding by how this was ever made. Whoever the writer is, has to be one of the dumbest writers. The premise is the best assassin mantis, goes toe-to-toe with the person he has had feelings for, who begins to despise him because mantis gets all the attention. The whole story is laughable and unbelievably stupidly executed. There is no character development, no back story, its just a bunch of scenes woven together. The assassins work for money but somehow their broke and cant find work? Yeah, it just gets more ridiculous as it goes on. DO NOT BELIEVE THE HIGH REVIEWS. Almost everyone who watches Korean shows or movies rate them high. This is a thumbs down. Waste of time.

Cool assassin film

Mantis is set in the same world as netflixs other film kill bookson but now the orinisation has closed down and left many assassins without purpose. The mantis however, played by the great im si-wan is still active and joins forces with his former traine partner jae-yi played by the gorgeous park gyu-young to form and agency but something is stiring within the crumbling foundations of the former company. A very cool film acted well with great choreography work in the action sequences and overall very enjoyable.

The action is dissappointing

The story, the acting ,the plot is not really good compare the previous movie.they made it into romance instead of action. Mostly the cast acting are not really impressive.like lack of charm.

Too many dialogue rather than action even the last battle just mid, nothing special.so different from expectation.

Stylish K-assassin thriller

Mantis (2025) is this cool Korean assassin flick on Netflix, tied to Kill Boksoon-ace killer Han-ul (Yim Si-wan) comes back from hiatus to a chaotic syndicate after the boss gets whacked. He teams with his trainee Jae-yi (Park Gyu-young), who's all career-focused, while old legend Dok-go (Jo Woo-jin) takes over. Starts slow, like 30-40 mins of setup where I'm like "What's the point?", but then it ramps up with John Wick-style fights and cleanups. I liked the deeper stuff: unrequited love (he crushes hard, she doesn't notice), master-student beefs, and young hustlers vs. Big assassin corps-kinda like any startup grind. Action's slick, but it has this young adult rom-drama feel with a fresh-faced cast that toned down the grit for me. 6/10-good one-watch if you're into K-thrillers; IMDb's at 5.3, but fans'll dig it more.

Don't bother watching it. Worst assassin movie

Please don't make another movie like this. It is totally too far from "Kill Bokson". The weak lead is not entertaining at all. No real show of power like the main lead in "Kill Bokson". It is sickening he treats his friends like garbage when they were in a company but at the same time makes them pitiful like he shows that he cares. Plus why did he have to meddle with the battle of his friend and his sensei?? Don't ever this kind of assasin movie with a weak lead please?!! It is a huge disappointment and the worst assasin movie ever!

Loved it!

A refreshing plot for an assassin movie. They gave a touch of humanity in Mantis' character, despite him being regarded as a high ranking assassin. Love that the movie revolved around love, loyalty and friendship. The fight scenes are so cool but I expected to see more action from the Mantis! They could have shown more of that in the movie. Still love it though!

Great acting, strong start, but falls short in story and payoff.

Starring: Si-wan Yim, Park Gyu-young

I decided to watch Mantis because I've already seen both Si-wan Yim and Park Gyu-young in Squid Game, and I also happen to love action movies. At first, I was hooked! The fight scenes were intense, well-choreographed, and full of adrenaline. Although the violence was a bit bloody, it felt raw and thrilling in a way that worked for the genre.

As the film went on, however, I felt like something was missing. The action tapered off nand the story started leaning more toward heavy drama. It almost felt like the plot lost its direction midway, leaving me wondering where it was supposed to go. Instead of building momentum, it slowed down, and a lot of the tension dissolved into unanswered questions and unfinished threads.

That said, the performances were solid. Si-wan Yim brought depth to his role, while Park Gyu-young carried her character with a mix of grit and vulnerability. Unfortunately, the script didn't give them enough to elevate the film into something truly memorable.

One of the biggest frustrations was the abundance of cliffhangers. While suspense can be exciting, Mantis left too many loose ends, making it feel incomplete rather than intentionally mysterious. It gave me the sense that the film wanted to set up more but didn't fully commit to delivering a payoff.

Mantis starts off as a promising action-packed film with brutal yet engaging fight scenes but it quickly shifts into a drama-heavy narrative that struggles to find its footing. The lead actors shine in their roles but the story doesn't quite live up to the performances. If you're watching mainly for the action, you might find yourself a little disappointed by the pacing and unresolved plotlines. Still, if you enjoy the cast and don't mind a more drama-driven approach, it's worth a watch.

Great acting, strong start, but falls short in story and payoff.

Veteran movie-watchers must avoid it

"Mantis" offers some good stunts, but the rest of the film is lacking. It relies on the same old story and feels like pure filler content, which speaks to streaming platforms prioritizing quantity over quality. This movie is a prime example of that trend. While young viewers with limited movie experience might find it enjoyable, veteran movie-watchers must certainly avoid it.

Boring .... Totally Avoidable 🤢

The movie is slow paced and boring. It feels like it should end as soon as it starts. I would not recommend it for watching unless u really have too much patience. PGY another movie with flop poor acting. Its better to avoid the movie there are better options available on OTT. It was overhyped i feel. As there was nothing else to watch i started it but couldn't complete it.

Stylish Action That Falls Short of Its Potential

Mantis sets out to expand the assassin-verse that began with Kill Boksoon, and while it delivers on style, it doesn't always land on substance. The film excels visually - its sleek cinematography and fight choreography create some memorable sequences that fans of the genre will enjoy. Direction is strong, but the pacing often feels rushed, leaving certain plotlines underdeveloped and the overall flow slightly uneven.

Performances are solid across the cast, with good chemistry and moments of emotional depth, though the script doesn't fully allow these characters to shine. The action is at its best in close-quarters combat, but some choreography and editing choices come across as awkward or inconsistent. Sound design is effective, though the score doesn't add much to the atmosphere.

Despite these flaws, Mantis remains a watchable entry for fans of gritty action dramas. It's entertaining and visually striking, but doesn't quite reach the storytelling heights it aims for.

Regular K-gore type of thing

So a sequel to Kill Boksoon it seems. Flashy fight scenes, sure, but I mean it ain't no Grandmaster by WKW. Which is for me the epitome of shooting a martial arts fight scene. Also, I remember liking Kill Boksoon more, probably for Jeon Do-yeon and having a female assassin as the lead and she is a badass uncomplicated killing machine, whereas here I kind of hated the romance angle and what that is meant to do for the story. Like I hated that as a catalyst for some of the decisions and the twists. And basically it could've also been a strong bromance type of thing between a man and a woman so why go there?

Anyway, I did enjoy the fights here as well but I think these movies are pure entertainment and nothing more, you're meant to enjoy them in the moment and then forget about them in a matter of days. Not gonna remember much of this.

I did like the actress playing Jae-yi and I had no idea she played the lead in Dali and Cocky Prince. She is completely unrecognizable.

A Soulless Imitation That Betrays Its Korean Roots

"Mantis" is a frustrating experience, a film that aggressively sheds its Korean identity in a misguided attempt to be a global-friendly action flick. It's a shallow, soulless imitation of the John Wick franchise, prioritizing flashy, hyper-stylized violence over the very things that make Korean thrillers exceptional: emotional depth, complex characters, and palpable tension. The film trades thoughtful storytelling for a relentless pace that leaves no room for character development.

Our protagonist is a charismatic void, a vessel for cool-looking fight scenes but devoid of the inner conflict or compelling motivation that anchors a story. This is where it deviates most from K-drama values; relationships feel like an afterthought, and the intricate web of honor, betrayal, and consequence is replaced by a simple, Westernized quest for the top spot. It feels more like a video game than a cinematic story. While the choreography is slick, it's ultimately forgettable because we have no reason to care about the outcome. A loud, empty, and deeply disappointing departure from what should have been a compelling universe. A true step down.

It was very unique and interesting, a good foreign film

Mantis is a foreign action film that delivers a surprisingly powerful and engaging experience. Centered on a young fighter who earns the moniker "Mantis" due to his unique weapon skills and fighting style, the film blends intense action with moments of emotional resonance. From the outset, the movie immerses viewers in a visceral, bloody world of martial combat, which is both thrilling and surprisingly well-choreographed. The action sequences feel deliberate and high-stakes, keeping the audience invested in the protagonist's journey.

The lead actor is exceptional, portraying Mantis with a nuanced combination of physicality and emotional depth. He anchors the film, giving life to a character that could easily have become a one-dimensional fighter archetype. His interactions with the supporting cast are strong, and together they create a dynamic environment that feels alive and authentic. Despite occasional pacing dips, the performances consistently maintain audience engagement.

The screenplay, however, is a mixed bag. While the story provides a foundation for intense action and character growth, there are moments where it loses focus and fails to capitalize on its full potential. Some narrative choices feel underdeveloped, and a few plot twists seem less impactful than they could have been. A more carefully revised script could have elevated the film, giving it even more originality and cohesion.

Despite these flaws, Mantis is a compelling watch. Its creativity, unique fighting sequences, and strong lead performance make it stand out among martial arts films. The foreign language aspect adds authenticity but may require viewers to invest more attention in understanding dialogue and cultural nuances, which slightly elongates the runtime.

Ultimately, Mantis is worth watching for fans of action and martial arts cinema. It combines intense combat, a charismatic protagonist, and inventive choreography into a film that, while imperfect, leaves a lasting impression. This is a film that rewards patience and attention, providing an experience that is both exciting and distinct within its genre.

Not bad at all

Why are people hating on it? The action scenes were actually good especially when Hanul took fought with his sickles. OH I love his weapons.

And if you don't understand then you should have watched Kill Boksoon first. That's only your own mistake.

I hope it will come a second movie or smt bc I just love Yim Si-wan and his characters (including the villains). He's a really good actor and I wish he would get the recognition he deserves for his acting. He's so underrated.

If you like movies with action and some humor then its for you. If you don't have humor then don't watch it. Don't use your time to write bad reviews on a movie that's actually pretty good.

Boring and annoying

Mantis is an assassin themed korean movie that is supposed to have lots of action and gripping story, but unfortunately it's not. A spin off of Kill Boksoon (which I didn't fancied as well), Mantis is nothing but a kind of parody to this genre.

The movie is full of clichés : a villain cast only for an evil face, slow motion walks and lame dialogues. Also, instead of focusing on the genre, it became a quest of unrequited love. The talent of main leads - Yim Si Wan and Park Gyu Young - were a total waste in the film.

The pacing is slow, the acting mediocre, and what is meant to be stylish ends up as pure posturing. In the end, Mantis is not a thriller about assassins - it's a catalog of recycled Korean clichés, where real tension is replaced with scenes so ridiculous they feel like a sketch.

To summarise, just avoid watching this movie and watch any of the existing good Korean action movie that is already out there in OTTs.

My Rating : 1.5/5.

Good film killed by predecessor

This movie should of been a stand alone film marketed as an action romance... The movie doesn't resonate with the Audience from the first movie. Doesn't have enough action and is held back by trying to fit into the same theme and look. Coming off as a sad attempt to recreate the originals draw. Instead of embracing its own unique identity.
