The UK post-punk band shame are back, and have announced their fourth studio album, Cutthroat. Listen to the lead single and opening track, “Cutthroat,” below.

Due on September 5th via Dead Oceans, Cutthroat is the follow up to shame’s 2023 album Food for Worms, and spans 12 new songs produced by John Congleton. Speaking about the album in a statement, frontman Charlie Steen, said, “It’s about the cowards, the cunts, the hypocrites. Let’s face it, there’s a lot of them around right now.”

The band expanded on that attitude in a longer joint statement, hinting at a restless drive beneath the record’s surface. “It’s driven by hunger,” they said. “Hunger for something better. For something you’ve been told you don’t deserve. It’s primal. It’s raw. It’s unapologetic. It’s the person who turns up to the party uninvited.

This year’s ceremony celebrating all things television was held at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday (May 11) in London, England.

BAFTA previously announced that ITV won the Special Award for commissioning Mr Bates vs The Post Office. Kirsty Wark, the former BBC Newsnight presenter, won the BAFTA Fellowship, the British Academy’s top accolade.

The BAFTA TV Awards were hosted by Alan Cumming, who currently hosts The Traitors on Peacock.

The ceremony screened on BBC One in the UK and BritBox istatside.

Netflix's Emmy Award-winning Baby Reindeer led the 2025 BAFTA TV and Craft Awards nominations on Thursday with eight bids, including Best Limited Drama, a lead actor nomination for creator and star Richard Gadd, and two supporting actress nominations for Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau. The limited series won several honors last year and through the winter, including Emmy Award wins for Gadd and Gunning, and a Screen Actors Guild Award victory for Gunning.

Three shows tied for second behind Baby Reindeer with six nominations: ITV's Mr. Bates vs. the Post Office, Disney+'s Rivals, and Apple TV+'s spy show and Emmy winner Slow Horses.

Other nominations of note, particularly for this current Emmys cycle, include four bids for FX's limited series Say Nothing and two mentions for Industry. The latter includes a lead actress nomination for star Marisa Abela, who shined during the show's breakout third season last year,...

Exclusive: This year’s Manchester Film Festival is set to run from March 14 – 23 and will open with a screening of The Penguin Lessons, directed by British filmmaker Peter Cattaneo and starring Steve Coogan.

Based on the best-selling memoir, the film tells the story of an Englishman’s personal and political awakening during a cataclysmic period in Argentine history, brought about by his unlikely adoption of a penguin.

French sales agent Elle Driver has secured key deals on Alexandros Avranas’ refugee drama Quiet Life.

The film has gone to France (Wild Bunch Distribution), Germany (Wild Bunch Germany), Spain (Lazona), Japan (Klockworx), Benelux (De Filmfreak) and Brazil (Imovision).

Quiet Life has its Mena premiere in the Festival Favorites section at Red Sea on December 11.

The fifth feature from Greek director Avranas follows a Russian refugee family in Sweden whose youngest daughter falls into a mysterious coma following the rejection of their citizenship application. The drama debuted in Venice’s Horizons sidebar.

Julie Delpy’s Meet The Barbarians will open the 21st edition of the Seville European Film Festival on November 8. The Spanish festival turns the spotlight on European films during this year’s awards season.

Meet The Barbarians is a satire about the arrival of a group of refugees in a village in Brittany.

The Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has picked 12 movies for its Festival Favorites selection of standouts from the fest circuit, including U.K. Oscar submission Santosh, an Indian police procedural about two women who form an unlikely alliance directed by Sandhya Suri; and Chinese auteur Guan Hu’s Black Dog, which won the Un Certain Regard Prize at Cannes.

Representing the U.S. in the lineup is Familiar Touch from director Sarah Friedland whose synopsis reads: “Arriving at an aged care facility, Ruth thinks she is in a fancy hotel on a date — with a man who is actually her son. Gradually, she reconciles herself to the life she has now.” The film had its world premiere in the Horizons lineup of the Venice Film Festival.

Sergei, Natalia, and their daughters have fled their home in Russia, seeking asylum in Sweden to escape danger. There they eagerly learn the language and immerse themselves in their new community while waiting for a decision on their application. But faced with rejection, despair sets in.

Their younger daughter Katja suddenly falls ill with resignation syndrome, a condition where trauma causes children to withdraw completely into an unresponsive state. As Katja’s health declines and hopes of appealing the decision vanish, the family is thrust deeper into uncertainty.

Madrid-based Paz Lázaro of Amore Cine, at the Venice Film Festival for “Kill the Jockey” by Luis Ortega and “Quiet Life” by Alexandros Avranas, has boarded Sergio Castro San Martín’s “A Thousand Pieces” (“Mil pedazos”), which is currently shooting in Chile.

Amore Cine joins Argentina’s Bikini Films and Pan Contenidos, Spain’s Maluta Films and Castro San Martín’s Chile-based company Latente Films, co-founded with Eduardo Pizarro, in the co-production that wraps early October.
