Avis à la une
Victoria Justice and Pierson Fode are perfect together in this movie and their chemistry is undeniable! Not having read the book previously I don't know how well it was portrayed but the movie is great on its own. This is a great and very different type of love story, from friendship (specifically best friendship) to romance and all of the challenges that come with it, to somewhere in between. It is relatable enough but also a different enough perspective that anyone can enjoy it! Naomi and Ely have to grow up and it's the coming to terms with that, the obstacle of a possible love interest and the testing of their bond that propels the story forward. Great movie that I can not wait to watch it again! I also really want to read the book now!
Vapid narcissists Ely and Naomi maintain a toxic friendship where they are co-dependant and yet not honest to each other. An affair between their parents (which ended in a divorce and a barely-together-marriage) has not broken their bonds, even though they harbour unspoken resentment toward each other -- made worse by their ill-advised pact to never date boys they both find attractive.
Perhaps we'd feel concern for them if they weren't both so self-absorbed and actually wanted the best for each other. Nope, Naomi would rather Ely conform to her fantasy relationship with him where he is not gay and he gives her the love she lacks from her father -- and Ely would rather not call out Naomi on her disregard for her other friends and current boyfriends, or even call her out on being a bad college student for that matter.
What happens doesn't even matter -- like most kids they'll realise that they created most of these problems themselves, and that other people actually have REAL PROBLEMS and maybe they should actually get a hobby or something.
If this in any way resembles your life, SEE A THERAPIST ASAP. The characters in this movie are not real, and if they were, everyone would hate them, because they are horrible. Gain some perspective and watch the news or read a book. Just don't be Naomi or Ely. They suck.

Average, at best.
'Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List' attempts to walk the right lines, but ultimately falls into a clichéd, predictable friendship tiff story.
Victoria Justice and Pierson Fodé are fine in their respective roles, though I never got a sense of major chemistry between the two. Justice and Matthew Daddario suited each other well, mind.
The main premise is pretty obvious, there's a lot of overly clear plot devices and it as a whole features a lot of coincidences - almost one at every turn. That can be OK, just not with the aforementioned issue.
There's, I guess, a few respectable things it's trying to portray and tell, across different life scenarios - the most interesting is actually the stuff between Naomi and her mother, which I found fairly intriguing and feel they could've done more with.
Not a film I'll be revisiting any time soon.

Really loved this concept. Really relevant to today. Being in love with your best friend. Yeah we have all experienced that haha. Great acting from Victoria. Director did an amazing job. Really loved this. Worth my money. Loved the comedy and romance and raw feeling you get when watching the movie. Great movie for teenagers and adults to watch. We have all (well most of us) had a best friend like Naomi and Ely had. All in all this is a really good coming of age story and LGBT movie. Great to watch with your friends. Not sure if you would watch with your family do to the make up scenes but to each there own I suppose. Definitely worth checking out if your into movies like this.
This was enjoyable enough as indie rom-coms go, even though I didn't get (missed?) what motivated Naomi's coming out of denial at the end of Act Two... My biggest Hunh? came when I checked the release date at the end of the movie... I know she was only 18, but as a young woman living in New York in 2015, I found it incredible that she wasn't gay-savvy enough not to have fallen in love with Ely, or at least acknowledge that it could never work out... That kind of naive self-delusion was more fitting for a girl in the more innocent 1970's (I'm thinking of my younger sister, who had a gay BF she developed a crush on) - it's hard to believe that could still happen almost 50 years later in our current culture... In any case, should be popular with teenage girls.
